how to get a job in oDesk?

I've been a member of oDesk for the past month and have submitted numerous applications for different jobs. However, I still haven't been chosen for any - and have been rejected by a lot of them because they've chosen other Providers instead. Is there a way to get the Customer's attention and be chosen against other Providers in oDesk? I have a good background but I lack a Portfolio - that would be because none of them would give me the chance.

Try to take more exam and elaborate you skills in your resume. Also, include finish works you have so that clients would know what to expect from you.

A good example of your work is your blog which can be added to Website Content, Blog or Article Writing. =)

What kind of finish works would that be? I've never been chosen by any of them that's why I don't have anything in my portfolio right now. Can you please elaborate? It would help me a lot. Thank you!

I agree with you there. I signed up several months ago with odesk, at first I applied to many jobs as they recommed but the only ones that actually amounted to anything were either withdrawn or did not end up being as they described. I don't know where you are located but I feel most of the jobs go to India and the Phillipines but at very low rates, I am seeing more and more well under $1US per hour some less than $0.5. Really I think many jobs are posted just to see what response they get to the absurdly low rates.

Well then I guess you'll be surprised when I tell you that I'm from the Philippines. I think my rates are reasonably low, I don't think I am willing to spend more effort on something that will pay me less. However, I still don't get any of the jobs.

I think the reason Indian and Phill workers are chosen is that from my experience their English skills are very good and rates much lower than Europe or the US. But a lot of posts only want workers with a minimum amout of Odesk hours, perhaps the only thing to do is take one of those 50c jobs purely to get some experience under your belt.

oh,I don't know what's oDesk. But I think I will go it to have a look. Do you work as a freelance now? Maybe we can communicate with each other to compare notes.
