My partner and I had a scare today. Our roommate had a toaster oven in the apartment and both my partner and I decided to make smores with it. We had made banana smores the other day without problem and I figured, why not! Let's try the toaster oven! I'd a bad experience with microwaves and smores before so the toaster oven was a good idea.
Well.... Let's say that was a very very bad idea. I had set the toaster oven to toast and my partner and I were waiting for the oven to heat up. Well, she looks at me and then points to the toaster oven. "I don't think it's supposed to be smoking..." Yes, smoking. And smelling bad all the way.
Quickly I turned it, off unplugged it, and my partner turned on the stove's hood fan to draw the smell and smoke out. We opened both windows in our apartment's living room and just to stop anything from going into the hall I put a towel at the bottom of the door. We don't need to set any fire alarms off. Our building has had enough in the past few weeks to last the rest of the year.
Now needless to say I'm really not wanting to use the toaster oven anytime soon. The smell and smoke turned me off of the idea. And the smell will probably stick around for ages. Have you had anything like this ever happen to you before? If it wasn't a toaster oven, what was it?

hi kitten...whew that is too bad. it started out as a good idea. well i use a toaster oven. i used to use it every day, but not as much now. but one time i was cooking a frozen dinner in my Toaster Oven and there must have been a power surge. because electricity streams were sounding zzt zzT and showing around the knob. it was a little scary at the time, but nothing serious happened. and the oven still worked after that. just makes for a memorable experience.

i wasn't brave at the time. i was so scared i took it out of my room. and was considering putting it in the garbage. but my bro-in-law looked it over and said it was fine. he is good at taking things apart and putting them together. so i took his word for it and it saved me some money. i've been using it for years.

I must say the only flaming appliance that I've ever experienced is probably that toaster oven. However, the toaster that I had here last year was pretty bad and did burn things quite often. If you did not catch your toast in time it would burn the toast and smoke as well.
However, that toaster oven, is one of the scarier ones that I've seen. That just does not seem safe to me.
