Well from the earliest of my memories I can recall i turned on at least one room light before going to sleep. Now that I am a grown up I still do that and when I tell my frends the laugh at me xD. It's not like I am scared or anything. I tell them that it's beign precausious cause you don't know if you wake up in the middle of the night and its pitch black and you need to go to the bathroom, but can't see a thing. Actually it has happend me a few times! So do you sleep with some lights turned on? or did you used to do it? and why =)!

hi jfilips...there is nothing wrong with your leaving lights on when you sleep. we never use to, but then as my mother got older we put up a night light in the bathroom, then when she got more fragile and fell, we have a lamp on a table that is on day and night. so she can see clearly whenever.

exactly the same as me =D. And yeah a soft light so that it doesnt fully wake you up and makes it hard to fall asleep again.

When I was a little girl I used to sleep with open lights. Now when I already grown up, I sleep without any light. Nowadays I can't sleep if the lights are open. If I want to go to bathroom or drink water than I will open light. I think it's normal if someone like to light on when they sleep. I think it is like habit.

When I was younger I slept with my lights on or i had a night light because i was scared of the dark lol and to be honest I still am scared of the dark.. kind of lol I am only scared if i am "alone" but if i have someone with me then I am okay. the dark just freaks me out because you can't see anything and my mind will start playing tricks on me. now I will fall asleep with my T.V on at night because i can't fall asleep in the dark. I set the timer on it and go to bed and it just shuts itself off

I think when I was little I had a light on to go to bed but I would have been really young . My parents never had lights on when we went to bed so I got in the habit of needing it dark in order to go to sleep . I know lots of adults that have a light on for the same reason you do , so that they don't bump into things in the middle of the night and I don't find this strange at all . Even if one was nervous as an adult there wouldn't be anything wrong with that . We can't help our fears . I believe that it is how we are raised though that determines what we will want when we are older . Growing up there were no lights on when we went to bed so as an adult I don't want any lights on , had I grown up the reverse , then I am sure I would want a light on when I went to sleep at night . And many woman that live alone prefer to have a light on at night as it gives them a sence of security that they are able to see everything .

I usually like a nightlight on at night. If I'm sick I stay on the couch with the tv on all night, if I'm in my bedroom then I'll leave the lamp on just for comfort. I have battery operated lights in my bathroom and leave them on. I can see my way there when they're on. Have a good night :)

hi jfilips theres nothing abnormal about wanting some light on to'see to get to the bathroom, no matter what age you are.I 'am a senior citizen and I had one bad fall with the result a badly smashed left shoulder. now I prefer to have some light to guide me on my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My fall was not at home however , but still now I am much more 'cautious about lighting and going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. goodluck.

I can't even go to sleep at night when the light's turned on! I don't understand how a lot of people sleep with the lamp tuned on. I'm not scared of causing a fire, but I just need complete darkness to go to sleep. Otherwise it will take me forever to sleep and by the time I wake up I'll be cranky...

I use to sleep leaving the lights on. There is nothing wrong with that. It is convenient in a way that you dont need to turn on the lights when you need to go to the restroom and adjust your eyes to the light which hurts! but now that i am married we turn off the lights coz my husband cant sleep with the lights on. There is nothing wrong if you wanted to let the lights on. It is something that you should not be ashame of.

I always leave a small light turned on. I wake up many times at night and I want to be sure that I can go to my target with out hitting or breaking something, or wake up the others by making noise. It's not wrong, I am 20 y.o. and I do this, and so do many relatives who are much older than me!

Does it really matter whether or not its normal, which it is normal, because other people don't run your life. If its what you need to do to sleep then do it.

Hi j, I understand that, I have friends who are like that and when you are used to wake up with lights, it is really uncomfortable opening your eyes and it's totally dark! I used to turn off lights even when I was a kid so,this time, we really turned it off but when I am along before in our rented apartment back when I was single and working, I always turn it off because I am scared!

I have heard that sleeping with lights on would bad for people's health. In the meanwhile, it is watse of electricity. If you afraid the dark when you need to go to the bathroom, I think you should just trun on you light. You can make the switch of the light near your bed and let you easy to trun the light. Also, you can use a night light which only have dim light.

I grew up sleeping with the light because my Mom say that it is good. But after listening to a seminar where a doctor say that it is not good I stop doing it. What the doctor say is that the light affect your skin and it is not good. I realize that after sleeping in the dark I am able to have a better sleeping habit. Maybe you need to try it too.

Hi jfilips, I normally sleps with lights off but when my husband is away I like to leave my bedside lights on and when I wake up and see daylight through the windows then I will switch them off. I don't like to sleep in the dark when I am alone. Tamara

I often sleep with light, the reason is that I scare of the dark , now i am 22 years old , I shame for my cowardice.
