Do you always use format your computer whenever it is infected with virus or spyware? I always find it hard to scan and destroy viruses in my computer. I will first try to scan it with AVG (free edition) and if it could not destroy the virus, i will format my computer. I think this is the easiest way to keep my computer free from virus.

Whenever my computer gets infected by a malicious software the first thing i do is format my computer & after installing windows the first thing i do is scan the full HDD.
I don't want to take a risk on malicious softwares.

hey, I'll tell you what. Use 2 anti-virus instead of one. use MCAFFE and AVG.. it's a good combination.. or you should partition your drive, segregate the documents and use a DEEP FREEZE. It's actually good.. ^_^

I usually do the same as you. I will try to scan the virus using Anti-virus program, and hope it will resolve the problem. As for spyware, I'll look for spyware removal. But if all these don't help, then I'll just re-format my harddisk. Yeah, I find it the easiest way too, also re-formatting the harddisk will boost up the performance.

I don't like to format my computer becasue it can clear all the data in your hard disk. It can destroy all virus but also your documents. Of course, you can remove your documents to other hard disk and backup it but it take a your times and some document your back up including virus. It can infect the new system after you format your hard disk. The best way to remove all the virus is to use a better anti-virus software to scan your hard disk.

Yes, I had to do backup whenever i format my computer and the backup files may contain virus. Before transfering the backup files back to hard drive, I do another scanning to make sure the files are free from virus. Alot of work though but its the safest way. Thanks commenting..

Well formating a pc is not that easy to do. It takes time for hours, depending on the computer's speed. Format only if you feel you have lots of files that you think you don't need anymore. Also format you computer when you cant work on it because its very slow because of virus and the corruptions of files or softwares. The easiest way to keep your computer free from virus is have a good anti-virus. I recommend avast Home Edition. Its Free and better that AVG. Also have an anti-spyware such as spyblaster and spybot search and destroy. They are free application where you can download it on download.com. Just an advice always know what are you doing with your computer. Be careful on the files that you are downloading from the internet. Also you can download yahoo anti-spy it is also good for removing software or application that can be risk your computer from spyware. Remember there are many backdoors for spyware and virus to enter in your computer. Prevention is better than cure.
Cheers and Thank you. I hope this will help you. This will save your time from formatting.

At first I scan with antivirus. If it does not work, Rather than wasting my time in other I just prefer to format and install new one. After installation I do nothing, first install updated antivirus and scan whole computer and clean. It really works for me.....

Nope! I do a boot-time scan with Avast and then run another scan later on with Avast. If the virus still there I will try running a scan from a Norton CD or try running an online scan. Formatting is the last thing I would do.

I hope the easiest way is formatting only unless we dont have much configuration to be loose. When we are going for the Virus scan after one or two scan also, it is not predictable that the problem is solved. Sometime the system restoration will help
