How long is a brita pitcher filter supposed to last?

I love my Brita pitcher but I am going through one filter a week. After one week of use filtering the water from my apartment's kitchen sink the holes get clogged up and the water tastes like straight from the tap. Are these supposed to last longer or does my apartment just have really bad water?

I have 2 Britas that I keep in the fridge at all times. Any cooking or drinking water comes from them, not straight from the tap. So they both get filled at least twice a day. I replace the filters about every 2 - 3 months! That's when I start noticing the water tasting like tap water. I've never had one clog up. what are the holes clogging with? Hard water deposits or sand or something else?

No they just clog up and wont filter like they do when they are all used up, like when I used to use them where i used to live...its kind of scary and we are thinking of taking a water sample into water board.

Taking a sample to the water board sounds like a good idea. There's something in there that shouldn't be in there if the filters are clogging up, let alone that quickly. Even with our fairly hard water I've never seen one clog up in the 6 yrs I've been using them and there have been a couple of times I've gone as long as 4 months between filter changes.

Yo may have bad water. We change ours out about every 2-3 months. Our pitcher during the week may get filled up once a day but on the weekends I bet 2-3 times a day.
