Our country has a lot of coconut tree. Everywhere you look, you can see at least one standing proud coconut tree. There are so many use on this plant.. Remember the coconut tree song? The coconut nut is a giant nut If you eat too much, you get very fat Now, the coconut nut is a big, big nut But its delicious nut is not a nut It’s the coco fruit (it’s the coco fruit) Of the coco tree (of the coco tree) From the coco palm family It has so many use that we call The Tree of life. WE can have a house made of the coco lumber and made a broom stick made of the leaves. The coconut fruit is very useful too. Specially the oil produced from it. Aside from the culinary use it also has medicinal value. They say that drinking the juice from its fruit could heal UTI, and that the oil from it could cure a lot of diseases. We also use coconut milk from the fruit. Here in our country we use coconut products everyday. From the broomstick that we first use in the morning to husk that we use on the floor. Don't you just love coconut? Oh I almost forgot, the LUmpiang ubod! They say it is a millionaire's food because you have to cut down a tree just to have it. here are some list I got from Wiki on the use of our Tree of life: * The white, fleshy part of the seed is edible and used fresh or dried in cooking.* Sport fruits are also harvested, primarily in the Philippines, where they are known as macapuno. They are sold in jars as "gelatinous mutant coconut" cut into balls or strands.* The cavity is filled with coconut water which contains sugar, fibre, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Coconut water provides an isotonic electrolyte balance, and is a highly nutritious food source. It is used as a refreshing drink throughout the humid tropics and is also used in isotonic sports drinks. It can also be used to make the gelatinous dessert nata de coco. Mature fruits have significantly less liquid than young immature coconuts; barring spoilage, coconut water is sterile until opened.* Coconut milk is made by processing grated coconut with hot water or milk, which extracts the oil and aromatic compounds. It should not be confused with the coconut water discussed above, and has a fat content of approximately 17%. When refrigerated and left to set, coconut cream will rise to the top and separate out the milk. The milk is used to produce virgin coconut oil by controlled heating and removing the oil fraction. Virgin coconut oil is found superior to the oil extracted from copra for cosmetic purposes.* The leftover fibre from coconut milk production is used as livestock feed.* The smell of coconuts comes from the 6-pentyloxan-2-one molecule, known as delta-decalactone in the food and fragrance industry.[11] * The sap derived from incising the flower clusters of the coconut is drunk as neera, or fermented to produce palm wine, also known as "toddy" or, in the Philippines, tuba. The sap can also be reduced by boiling to create a sweet syrup or candy.* Apical buds of adult plants are edible and are known as "palm-cabbage" or heart-of-palm. It is considered a rare delicacy, as the act of harvesting the bud kills the palm. Hearts of palm are eaten in salads, sometimes called "millionaire's salad".* Ruku Raa is an extract from the young bud, a very rare type of nectar collected and used as morning break drink in the islands of Maldives reputed for its energetic power keeping the "raamen" (nectar collector) healthy and fit even over 80 and 90 years old. And by-products are sweet honey-like syrup and creamy sugar for desserts.* Newly germinated coconuts contain an edible fluff of marshmallow-like consistency called coconut sprout, produced as the endosperm nourishes the developing embryo.* In the Philippines, rice is wrapped in coco leaves for cooking and subsequent storage - these packets are called puso.* In Vietnam, coconut is grown almost in Ben Tre Province- the "Land of coconut" and people use it to make coconut candy, coconut caramel and m?t d?a. Coconut water and coconut milk is also put in many dishes such as kho, chè, etc. especially in the Vietnam's Southern style of cooking. Now Have you drink your coconut lately?

Very interesting. Coconut drinks sound very delicious. I would say that in America, coconut is mainly used shredded in deserts. I have seen coconut milk in the Asian food sections of the grocery store. How is it used in cooking? Thanks for all the information:)

It is poured into chicken dishes just before it is cooked. usually you just let it simmer for some more minutes. This is one dish I knew that also use curry, we call it here chicken curry, we use chicken previously boiled in garlic, pepper and vinegar, we saute it in garlic, onion and curry powder, put the chicken then some bell pepper and some potato and green peas, let it stand to cook, when the chicken is cooked, pour coconut milk, let it stand for another 5 minutes, serve hot with steaming rice, yum! and don't forget a glass of cold coke!

Hello pehpot, Each part of the coconut tree has its own benefit. Every part of the coconut tree is useful to us. As for me, I like to drink the coconut water. I still use coconut milk in most of the dishes that I prepare. I like to use a broom stick made of the coconut leaves.

Coconut is the wonderfruit as some describe it. It is a great source of everything, like virgin coco oil - which is so commercially known for the past few years for its healthy benefits. The coco water also has nutritional values (like most fruits). And coconut has been a good source for a clean fuel (coco biodiesel). By the way, I will be going to a province where coconut is one of the known products -- Bicol. Bicolanos like putting coco milk into their viands which is yummy. Now, I really am hungry!

First I think you should try to edit in a way that it's not obvious that you used your copy paste privilege. I know that it's a plus if your post is long because of the earning you will get but you could also be sued for copying a copyrighted article or whatever that maybe. Anyways didn't mean to offend you. Just saw the number 11 in your post which wikipedia uses. Sorry for reading it carefully, I usually do this so that I could learn from one's post. So now let's go back to the post you discussed. Well Coconut is really a tree of life, because of all the benefits it gives us from almost all it's part. I love to drink it's juice and eat the meat inside. I also like the part that is called "tumbong/buwa" in Filipino term. It's the inside part of a grown up coconut where there is plant already growing, I think its the root part. I like the taste of it. Well there is to many to list all the benefits we can get from the coconut tree, so I am cutting it short. Besides you already stated almost every part of it in here. Sorry again and God bless.

Pehpot, you need a job selling coconuts, you are really good at describing them and selling the great benefits of the coconut.. I do love coconut, but I like it on a fresh yellow cake with 7-minute frosting, in an Almond Joy candy bar and in coconut macaroons.. That is about as far as I go with the coconuts.. Sounds to me like you really know the history of the coconut..

I've been drinking Virgin Coconut Oil my dear. It's doing great job on my health. I think people should try this as well. And of course I also love the Buko juice so much. I love it really. And of course the coconut meat when cooked with sugar and called Bukayo in our native dialect or the other variety called coco jam. I love them all. Coconut is a very useful tree is is good of I think more than 347 ways. I wish people will be as versatile and as useful as coconut.
