what is the story behind final fantasy

recnetly i finished final fantasy 9 psp edition and i like that gamne alot.but i have some questions about this series that which one is the 1st part of final fantasy and what ios the story behind that.means from where did it started .these alla eposides are toghter or interlink or they are separate.what is your reviews on this what was the real story and from where did it started.

all of them have different stories.. i mean some of them are spin offs like crisis core and dirge of cerberus are spin offs of ff7, but i believe how they came up with the name final fantasy was that square at the time was going out of business and this was to be their final game but it was a success so they prospered =D

they are all seperated story... when they created the final fantasy game it was supose to be the last game they created(square enix) because they were out of money so they did the game with no sequal in mind and it because of that they are all seperated story

Yes.Final Fantasy titles are not a continuous series and they are not linked in any way.Also the characters are different always,the maps and cities are also different.

Most final fantasy games are not linked usually. They do sometimes feature the same name (Cid, Wedge) over and over in different game but they are different characters. If a Final Fantasy game has a sequel it usually contains the number of its predecessor. So Final Fantasy X has Final Fantasy X-2. While Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII.
