It's been being used for years and is perfectly legal in most states for all ages. There really is no study on it and the DEA has been debating for the last 8 years on attempting a ban on it. Reports are that it is more an herb than a drug, much like "valarian", and no long term effects have been linked to it nor have any toxins been yet been discovered in it. there is a claim that suicidal feelings have been linked but no official study has been done on this either.
SO, what say all of you?

if Salvia's really like Valarian either people haven't been doing it right or the herbal pills I take every night should be doing a lot more than just helping me sleep, reducing anxiety and giving me the occasional ultra vivid dream.

It's beyond me how we can declare it unlawful for a plant to grow.. well, that's the way I look at it. I never heard this about the purple Salvia... So if I grow some in my yard, someday I could be prosecuted? Cute. Somehow I just can't see any gangs springing up to sell Purple Salvia, with turf wars and all.. Let's see, what's better.. peaceful gardeners minding their own business, or a whole new crop of gangs and gang land crime? Mafia Madness... that's all it is..
