The days of the independant coffee shop are over and I am not happy about it. It is such a shame to see them disappear. I would like to recognize some of the best shops that have disappeared:
Hole in One Bagel
Appalachian Bean
Blue Moon
The worst part about these shops closing is that now that they have a monopoly, dunkin donuts has made their coffee gross and starbucks charges a first born child for a late.
BRING BACK MY COFFEE SHOP!

I definitely wonder the same thing, even though I did work for Starbucks, the dreaded empire, for almost 3 years. In high school I worked for a local indepenednt coffee shop in my town; I moved to a bigger city for college and worked at Starbucks because of my experience, but I would actually spend a lot of my time studying at a small coffee shop down the street when I was off. I loved the atmosphere.
I wish there would be some kind of resurgence of these kinds of coffee shops; much like a Starbucks of Coffee Bean, I believe they are a necessary part of the culture.

Well at least there are still independent veggie/ vegan cafes! At least in the UK! Sounds like you're in the US, though you don't specify your country on your profile. Can sympathise with your winge about the high prices. Our coffee chains usually charge over £2 for a cappachino or latte AND some even charge extra for a soya milk instead of dairy, including the infamous Starbucks (35p!!!). At Costa Coffee a medium cappachino or latte will cost you £2.35 or $4.11, as an example.

That's good to hear. It's a pity more myLotters haven't picked up on this thread. This brings me to a little joke. Yes, I do go to McDonald's sometimes, but only to visit their restroom, if there isn't a more convenient one!
