Today is the first day of a 21 day fast for me.Im fasting a little bit different I can eat after 6pm.So today I havent had anything at all..not even water.Im doing this for religious reasons , As a church we are going through difficult times and are praying and fasting to get spiritual guidance from God.
Have you ever fasted?if yes then how do you do it?howlong do you fast for?what are your reasons?
and if you have never fasted what do you think about it?

I used to fast four times a month which involves abstaining from taking food and water for 36 hours. This coincides with the full moon and the new moon and 11 days after the full moon and 11 days after the new moon. The last meal is taken the night before and the fast is broken the following day with a banana and lemon juice with salt. Cheers!!

Fasting is a way of counterbalancing the effects of the moon which has influence on the liquid portions of our earth including our bodies, we being 75% water. It is part of my spiritual practice although I don't fast anymore on a regular basis.

I'll be praying for you!:) I fasted for 30 days this past January from meat. I never thought that would be hard but man was it ever hard.
About once a month, I will fast for a smaller amount of time... from no food but will still drink water, sometimes just eating vegetables.

Oh I didn't know that. I have seen some christians fasting before christmas for 24 days or 40 days, but they don't totally abstain from food and water.
I'm a Muslim, It is the fasting time for us, a great coincidence:)
We have one month fasting every year(as per Hijri Collendar). It is abstaining from food, drinks and water from Dawn to sunset. It is not just abstaining food, it is for spiritual revival, we are supposed to abstain from evil things and to concentrate more on spiritual things and this month (Ramadan) is considered as more rewardable than others.
This year Our fasting started on Spetember 1st(some places 2 or 3) and likely to end on 30 or 31st.
Fasting is one of our major worship method. This one month fasting is obligatory. it help to improve our spirituality, to earn more reward, to understand hungry of many people, it promote charity, and devotion to God.
Cheers.

I have never fasted myself but I had been taught that there's a reason its called fasting and prayer... the prayer isn't just for what your fasting for but that when your having a tough time from not eating that you should pray to God for him to sustain you, and to draw strength from him. I think if you praised him too, it would take your mind off your belly.
