It broke my heart to read the headlines of todays NY Times. It read the chairman of the House Ways and Means committee NY Rep. Charlie Rangel had not paid in excess of $75,000 in taxes on his beachfront property in the Domincan Republic. Rangel was defiant in that he would not give up his post as chairman of the ways and means committee, the committee that writes the tax law. He admits fault, but in his usual way, still defiant.
As a former worker of Rangel, it saddens me to see his career unfold like this. I am truly hurt by the news and think his time maybe coming.

I couldn't believe it when this story first broke. Mr. Rangel, from my understanding, has done a great deal to serve his district for a very long time. Ideologicly, I am at opposite ends with him, but from what I knew, he was basicly a good man who did a lot to help his constituants.
I would like to be able to say it was an honest mistake, but being as he is partly in charge of writing the tax code, he had to know he was not acting with in the law. I'm going to reserver 100% judgment untill the investigation is complete, I think it would be only fair, but it doesn'tlook good for the congressman right now.

That is a good approach to take. I do not know why recently he has been in the news so much regarding his private dealings. I looked up to this man, and in some ways I still do. But it has caused me to question a lot, especially my continuted support of him. I will keep a watchful eye and break any more news.

Wow I am shocked, someone in his position doing something like this. He has been in office a long time too. How sad. I wonder what could happen to him.

I know, I am just as shocked at this. This man has done so much for people, including helping me get my start. It makes me question the type of things he was dealing in. This is only the latest thing to come up regarding Rangel, and the fact that he admitted some wrongdoing further disappoints me. Thanks for your post!

now that's just shocking
his committee writes tax law and he doesn't go by it himself?
strange, he is after all the chairman and someone like him must have enough knowledge of taxes
well he admits mistake anyway, let's see what happens
