For me, it is a tie between Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I use to be a die hard King fan, but Koontz has really drawn me in with his writing skills.

I haven't read any horror novels in some time but I always enjoyed Dean Koontz. Stephen King is also very good but I find Koontz to be far easier to read and not so intense. As for the scariest book I ever read; "It" by Stephen King is certainly up there with the best of them!

When I was a kid and the movie "It" came out, I remember watching it with a couple of my friends and we were so scared!

I have to say Anne Rice. Her books are well written. They truly draw you in. The characters are truly fleshed out. They take on a life of their own. Hollywood must agree. Her book Interview with the Vampire was made into a terrific movie.

I also love Anne Rice! Her books on the Mayfair clan were excellent. To bad she's not writing horror anymore.

Stephen King! Some of his works on the books has reached the big screen. He absolutely knows how to put a scary plot in the story.

I don't actually have any favorite horror author, but I enjoy reading horror stories, especially the collections of horror stories from Pan & Fortuna. There are about 20 books or so, in each collection; and I've not read all - these are rather old, and I have not been able to find some of them.

I'm not into horror that much, but I have to go with the classics and say Edgar Allen Poe. Edgar Allen Pose was one of the first authors I had ever had ever read. Not only were his stories interesting but so was his life. Stephen king is also a great writer.
