Has anyone been watching America's Got Talent? There has been a cute little 4 year old there by the name of Kaitlyn Maher. Really cute and has a cute voice for a 4 year but if you were a parent would you do this. The child will win $1 million contract for a full-time Las Vegas revue to its winner--presumably an adult winner capable of handling that much income, a grueling weekly performance schedule, and fast-lane life in Sin City. This little tot isn't even old enough to go to the bathroom by herself. How in the world is she supposed to put on a 90-minute Vegas show night after night if she actually wins this thing? Yes she is a cute kid and yes she has some talent for a 4 year old but would you do this to your child? When does a child get to be a kid anymore? What do you think are the parents nuts?

Kaitlyn Maher - Cute little 4 year old from America's Got Talent...Kaitlyn Maher
She is a cutie pie. YES I think her parents are nutz!!! Jerry Springer insisted that she did NOT have a stage mother. I have noticed that since she left the show that she has a stage father who insists that she is doing what she wants with her life. My question is what 4 year old know what they want to do with their life??? She has a talent. She does the songs well...never missing any of the words. What will happen to her as she gets older & loses her little girl voice & looks. She sang Amazing Grace on the Today Show last week. She did a good job. I kept wondering why she kept being moved forward. She was good for her age yet NOT as good as some who were booted. I am glad that it is now OVER for her on AGT. However it looks like it might have jump started her career. I just pray her childhood is NOT taken from her & her life ruined in the name of the almighty dollar!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGHGZfCKEYs http://www.myspace.com/kaitlynmaher

I agree with you she is cute but ya a 4 year old does not really know what they want in life. You read about so many child stars going well bad for lack of a better word. She hasn't been able to really experience life as a child yet then to be pushed into the entertainment business....sighs

Well given that i have a child that has talent, no I wouldn't. I'd train her or even diligently develop her talents, but I won't expose her to a life such as that even if I'm sure she will win it. Its just too much obligation for someone young. For me education is one of the best things that I can pass down to my child and even if there is a great amount of talent for the arts, its not good enough as a reason to focus on an early career. I suppose when he or she comes of age, then and only then will I allow her to participate in contests like that. If I do my parenting well, chances are she'll thank me for it.

Sounds like you have a level head on your shoulders and your child is gunna do great in life. Just remember if they don't say thank you for how you raised em when they get adults and start to look back as we have we'll see what our parents did and how much they loved us. I think when it comes to talent a kid can have talent like yours and this 4 year old but see you have taken the perfect route education. I don't think this 4 year old can handle a vegas schedule and can you imagine how she may grow up. Some child stars just don't make it in life because of all the pressures and their surroundings. Keep up the good work with yours and keep that level head and am sure your child/children will go far in life. Takes a parent to car and sounds like you do. Rock on....

Thanks for the wonderful compliment. I guess my parents have taught me well. I can see that we have more or less similar views on this thanks to you post. This is just wonderful since there are many parents out there nowadays that focuses more on the easy way of doing things rather than the proper way. You are right not all child stars last very long and even those who last long don't turn out to be as successful as you would expect.
