I am such a frugal person and spending this kind of money just makes me so nervous! We are building a pantry, sunroom and carport. My husband has been able to get the materials at great discount prices, and we are going to do all we can do by ourselves. I could not believe it when I figured up this morning how much we had paid out these past two weeks! Over $10,000!!!!! I almost had a panic attack! Well, when I see how much we spent, I shift into the more frugal mode and start seeing where to cut more corners and where to make more money! I am on a mission and any leadership from you, my mylot friends, will be greatly appreciated. God bless you!

Would it not be better to get a full time job? You could really make a dent in that money with a job. You'd make more in a day than you would in a week on the internet!

No, I don't plan on getting a full time job, I stay very busy here at home. I babysit my grandbabies, by the way just had the little boy Tuesday! That makes 4! I watch them when needed and the money we spent was out of pocket so we don't owe it to anyone. Just want to get money replenished as soon as we can. Thanks for your response and God bless you!

I didn't know that, that's a wonderful job and so important! You're giving your grandchildren a real gift in knowing who their family is. Congratulations on the new baby! If you need my list of paying survey sites, let me know. I just requested a total of $25 yesterday from two survey sites. One I'd done a few surveys for and made $10 in two months, the other I made $15 in a month. I'll be offline in a few hours and won't be back for a few days but if you ask, I'll have it to you in a few days. My sister is coming to visit, hooray!

Hello there mama, it's been awhile since I've answered your discussion. So how have you been...? I see you are suffering from a healthy seizure, ha! Not to worry, hon, because I think money's well spent is good effort and a form of good investment in the long run. Think about the possibility of you having to need the money someday or wanting to move on to a new place to upgrade or something, this would come in handy. A good renovation will stand a higher chance of value for money and customers will bid the best price even at certain times. So no worries there. Just enjoy chilling out in your new renovated compartments there. Take care and have a cheery day.

Hon, I understand the panic. But I hope you can just take a deep breath and relax. You deserve to have something improved for yourself. And look at it this way, when and if you sell your house again, it will be up in value because of the changes you have made. Plus, having our homes how we want makes it easier for us to relax. Just clip those coupons, look for generic instead of brand names, and remember God is happy you are getting to do something that you want.

Awwwww! AmbiePam! You made my eyes tear up. That was so sweet. My son told us he was so happy for us and we deserved this. Well, it is paid for anyway and we don't owe for it. I am going to really enjoy them. I will definitely be clipping coupons, using generic and growing our own food. Getting back to the simple life! Sounds good to me! Thanks and God bless you!

I find it fantastic reading your discussion! The thought of a couple putting all their combined efforts into buiding and improving their 'nest' ALWAYS is something good to hear of, even more so in this day and age when we so much of thing being divided due to seperations. It must have cost you worries before undertaking these improvements but the thought that you are not in debt MUST spur you on! I'm sure you will find ways to beat rising costs and carry on without incurring in any problems and I am happy at the idea of what you are doing. The only advice I can give you is something I do myself. I make do without a dvd, satellite television and all the latest gadgets that come on the market. My 'old-fashioned' things work fine and do the job they are supposed to do without any problem at all. I 'cook' things and do not buy ready made things as I am sure it is cheaper and healthier too. I wish you good luck and many happy years in your new, improved dwelling!

Mysdianait! That was so sweet! Thanks for the encouraging words! I have to admit I am a bit anxious at times where the extra money will come from but in time we always seem to get what we need, maybe not what we want but what we need. God does supply our ever need. I love your simple way of living, I am getting back to that so quickly! Thanks you for your post and God bless you!

I know how this feels. Every once in a while I get a bank loan and have about the same amount of money and shock myself when I see how I spend it. It does give you a queery feeling and a sense of unsettlement that is disturbing. When you spend all your time trying to cut corners and save money and then, in one single go, just spend so much.

Wow, you must be doing well to be able to afford all those remodeling projects. I think our biggest spending was a few years back on a new roof. It's strange you never really SEE that money. It's always in a form of paper..checks.

You are so right. All the money is just passed form one person to another in the form of a piece of paper....a check. LOL Thanks for your post. God bless you!

That is way too much money. You should only do one thing at a time. You should not do three projects at one time. That is too much.

I know exactly how you feel I was only working temp and my husband worked full time when we renivated our basement. It was over $ 4000 and for a space less than 400 sqf I just find a hard time to believe we spent so much and tax on top but there is nothing we can do, we need the space because it's a small house and we do plan to sell the house but with the economy right now who is going to bother buying a house at all?

That is a lot of money and makes being frugal even more important. I really wish I had $10,000 to spend on remodeling but I don't. My husband hasn't worked in several weeks and we are struggling greatly. I am doing all I can to make some money and I hope to make some more soon here. I have started working overnight at work for a 60 cents per hour bonus and it has helped some, but now they have cut our hours so I am not sure as to what I will do. I guess just put it into God's hands. I hope you enjoy the sunroom and don't think about the cost - at least it is paid!!

You are increasing the value of your house way beyond the money you've spent. You did a good thing.

Whoah! $10,000 in 2 weeks? To be honest with you, right now I don't even have $10,000 in my bank acct. lol but reading your post that I realized that maybe you're reconstructing or furnishing your place that's why you spent that much. But if there are any more "unnecessary" expenses I think you could cut down on expenses if you try not to use your credit card for a while. Try to pay more on cash. That's the thing with credit card is you can't feel the pain of losing money until your bill comes up. So I think that's one way you could monitor your expense. So far I don't know what else are you spending at so I can't make clear advices for you
