I've never had chicken pox before in my life, and though I'm not quite an adult yet, I've heard that having it in my older years is really, really bad.
Does anyone know if it's quite as bad as I've heard?

I got shingles just this week so I thought I would want to participate on conversations about this to inform others how painful it is to have this kind of disease. I thought I was having an ear infection but the throbbing pain on my head did not cease even if an EENT gave me antibiotics. Then another EENT doctor confirmed I had shingles or herpes zoster because I had this rashes on my right ear and right part of neck. They told me I was lucky because if it had gone to my eyes, i will get blind. I still feel blessed. The medicines were very expensive, luckily, my daughters pediatrician had sample medicines that lasted 3 days for me. You have to drink Aciclovir 5 times a day with 800 mg each. Imagine that dosage so if you have renal failure or problems with your kidney, you can't take in that kind of medicine and you'll have to bear the pain by yourself.

I've already had chickenpox when i was 3 or so years old. Lucky me.
Yes, indeed its terrible to have them when you're older - it also deadly.
Well, occationally some among the senior boys in my college have chickenpox once in a year, but they survive without fail and return to classes after a couple of weeks or so. They're like 21-23, i dont know if you call them adults, but its not that dangerous at that age, it would seem.

I had chicken pox as a child, so I don't personally know what it is like to have it as an adult - but I have heard it is pretty bad. I have had shingles -and those are miserable!

I had chicken pox around sixteen, and I did not wake up for two days. I had the pox in my mouth, throat and eyes. I was so tired and felt really ill.
A few years ago I got the shingles across my back. I was not to sick, the itch was bad though. After a few months, I developed pins and needles in my eyes, ears, throat, just about every where. Someone told me shingles can leave you like this, but I am not sure. I still have the pins and needles but.
I think you have to of had chicken pox as a child to develope shingles, it stays in your system, and if you are run down, it can acttivate again.
