For what reason did you get your dog??

Igot my first dog as a conpanin and a pet then i started to train the dog to be a guard dog. Then i became a dog trainer the next dog i get will be a nice dog for my little girl to protect her and her mother. what kind of dog do you have?

I think I got my first dog -because I needed one. I felt I wouldn't be complete without one.. And he was the best dog I ever had too. As was the 2nd dog. and they were great for exercise and socializing they also taught me patience I got the 3rd because the other 2 were getting on in age and I didn't want to be alone. And knew it would make the transition easier.. the 4th dog i got was because a dream i had -told me to get him.. (another story entirely) maybe he will save my life one day or something.. Fate had some reason for sending him to me. By this point I am just addicted to dogs.. so I go and get #5 (my first and only purchased dog.. and drive to NC to get him) then #3 and #5 mate and give me #6 and #7.. now I have a pack and they are there to "protect the house" generally I don't think they will do anything.. but there sure will be alot of barking- and a bunch of big dogs. and who really wants to take the chance.. so. i think in the last 20 years the dogs have encompassed all the reasons you mentioned to me. they are Family, companion, protector, guard dogs, social therapy and when i get off my butt. my exercisers .lol

I've always liked having a dog around. Ever since I was a wee little lad I've had a dog or at least it seems that way. The best dog I ever had by far was a Chocolate Lab that was actually a dog that had been abandon and the vet had picked up. We knew the staff so they let us adopt the dog. Never have I seen a more smart dog that was so well with people and little kids. Not to mention a very good guard dog as well. Sadly I lost her in 2005 but she was a great dog. When I decide I'm ready to get a dog of my own again I think I'm sticking with the Labs. ;)
