Do You Recognize the Value of House-Helps?

In families like ours where both the husband and wife are working, we rely some household chores to house-helps. It is not easy at all to find someone whom you really can trust because there are applicants nowadays that are so dishonest and incompetent. In my case, I really take good care of the house-help in the family because she is really reliable when it comes to household chores especially in my absence. She cleans the house very effectively, takes care of the pets by feeding and cleaning them and most importantly, she gets along with the kids when I am not around. Although there were times that we both differ on how few things are done in the house, we both respect each other because I have been trusting her capacity; she has proven it too. Sometimes when she goes home, a little part in my activities would be sacrificed especially during weekends. Instead of playing tennis the whole morning and a part of the afternoon, I would just play a couple of games then go home. Therefore I believe that these people should be taken cared of and be given due respect because they really are our true help.

If I were to employ a household-help in the future. I would give her/him full benefits of a regular employee. Quezon City, Philippines under Mayor Sonny Belmonte developed a program for household-helpers. It includes social security services and self-development trainings and lectures.

even if they are less educated,it doesnt mean one can take them for granted.

Absolutely! I am giving mine the same benefit and I hope she won't abuse it. She has been with us for almost four years now, so I just hope.

Actually we have become so dependent on house helps that we cant do without them. We only realise their worth when they go on leave, and believe me thats the time I am busiest, what with all the work to do. Yes, we should treat them with respect and affection, for they do work which m akes our lives so much easier. Thanks to them.

Well-said kety! It's just sad to know and hear daily news of abusive employers to their house-helps..They're hurting them physically and emotionally as if they own their lives as slaves. Thanks for sharing!

well, it's just difficult without them especially if you're working like me. Maybe the concern of your elders depends on the culture of the place and the people. Thanks for sharing!
