Do emotions make you tired? Or is it just me?

I've had a complete range of emotions today. I'm exhausted! My day started with a phone conversation that had me laughing until my side hurt. I got angry with myself for letting someone I love down. My sister is hurting over some terrible news and I've cried over being so sad for her. I got extremely annoyed at my son for testing his limits waaay too much today. I got frustrated at not being organizied enough in a particular area of my life. And at the end of the day when I was prepared for a laid back family picnic at my son's school I realize I'm standing under a tree in the park having an all out anxiety attack. Why are emotions so physically taxing? Is this true for you?

Pat yourself on the back because you're human! lol It sounds like you've been through an emotional roller coaster from hell!! It's been like that for me for the past 4 months and yes, it's like that for me too. It's probably why I stay tired now a days and it's not getting any better either but I'm trying to accept it for it's life and life hands us all a lemon a time or two and at times a whole darn bag of 'em! lol

Yes it is so true! All kinds of things are released in the body with the changes in emotions. I am caring for my mother in law and working and helping my son all at once. Well there is worry about mom, aggravation at work, and frustration with my son. I feel drained after a day of that.

it does happen to me too.yesterday,i was feeling quite blue for some reason and you know i feel very tired today though i had adequate sleep.i think its because the brain overworks and maybe it has to do with hormones also.

I am the same way so don't feel to bad. like yesterday and today here in mylot. Over a discussion I wonder if I should of started. All because I got upset with another mylotte. I have gotten a lot of replies about losing weight. I know how to lose weight I mean I have had a weight problem sense childhood. It really upset me that other mylotters in here act like I don't know how to lose weight when the discussion had no part of me asking advice on how to lose weight. So after this discussion and another one I wish I had not of started it made me feel actually worser.

Hi makingpots, Very interesting topic. My emotions have had a physical affect on me for years. My symptoms have run the gamut, from continuously having to run to the bathroom (both #'s), severe headaches, and even vomiting a couple of times. Since I have a lot of stress in my life, and have for years, I'm exhausted most of the time. There are some people who 'seemingly' are able to rise above whatever life hands them. While I've had to be very strong, this doesn't stop my emotions from getting the better of me at times, causing the reactions I've mentioned. I hope things even out for 'us' soon, as some of us can never seem to catch a break. Take care.

And here I thought for me it was just the remnants of menopause! LOL Some days are worse than others. And all kinds of things can contribute to this day over that day being more emotionally taxing and tiring than others. I find as I get older though that my energy levels have to be very carefully guarded and expended on emotions that I have more trouble controlling over others. So I've learned to just 'let go' of the things I can't change, and change the things I can and be satisfied with that. And then along comes a day when I get up feeling good and it all goes to hell within the first ten minutes! LOL You just never know what a new day will bring, good or bad, and frankly, I think it's the 'surprise' that keeps me getting up in the mornings! ROFL

Lol It's always good to know what gets someone up in the mornings. Hate those gone-to-hell-in-the-first-ten-mintutes days. I have been known to climb right back in bed on those days.

Damn! Don't I wish I could! But I was strictly brought up and ALWAYS have my bed made before I've even put my slippers on or taken a pee, so climbing back in and messing it up again is just not an option! ROFL

I do think that emotions make us tired. When I am upset about something or feeling a lot of stress/anxiety, I am usually exhausted too! This week, my job has had me in a a state of almost panic every day. Needless to say, last night I ended up staying home and I was so tired that I could barely lift my head off my pillow. Once I get myself well-rested, I tend to feel better and the emotions don'thit as hard. O.K. Now I wonder...do the emotions make us tired or does being tired cause us to be more emotional?

I've noticed the happy ones don't seem to exhaust me. In fact they energize me. I really MUST laugh more..... I've been very low energy lately. LOL

Emotions seem to make me tired. Most of the time if i'm really stressed out i could sleep all day with no problem at all. When i'm happy it doesn't really affect my sleep patterns except for at the end of the day i might have little bit of trouble sleeping, but once i get to sleep i am out for the night. When i get fruterated that makes me want to sleep all day too, so I know where your coming from. Emotions are definately a tole on me and I think that it's that way for most people also, at least I hope so for the sake of my sanity lol. Awesome discussion.

Good day... It could work either way. It could tire us and inspire us as well. It's a balance in our lives that all of us are destined to experience. But considering the alternative of not feeling anything would any of us want that. I think these emotions are here to make us feel alive.

Yes i agree that emotions really do make a person tired, that is the case for me as well but once you get used to it,you wouldn't even consider emotion to be a part of life,Im not saying that you should be a robot but once you're used to it you can pick out the emotion that you want to fell and disregard it

If only I could have the choice of emotion to feel or disregard. My husband is a master of this. We are very opposite in that respect.

Yes, I do find emotional situations and just feeling emotional in general positively exhausting. But as far as my understanding goes, the reason why emotions are so taxing is because they require enormous mental and biological activity. Let me explain. For instance, when most people get angry, their sympathetic nervous system is triggered to produce adrenaline, which makes your heart speed up, your muscles tense for flight, your pupils to widen, etc. - all physiological responses that, over any length of time, are physically tiring. While all this is occurring physically, you are mentally responding as well - you begin analysing the situation, and a mental dialogue begins in which the average individual will berate themselves, the parties responsible, and will most probably fume on about various other topics while they've got their head of steam up. We don't experience emotions as a singular, detached experience; the heart cannot live without the body, and neither can live without the mind. This existence is all in - whether you're aware of it or not, all your experiences are processed on and have consequences for every level and every part of your being.

This happens to me as well, you're not the only one. I get consumed by emotions like frustration, anger, sadness, and depression. I tend to not get too overwhelmed by positive things, but let the negative have a bigger impact than they should.

Yes, emotions can really drain me. If I am angry or sad, I will be ready to hit the floor about five hours later because of all of the adrenaline I used up.

The source of the exhaustion from emotions is the adrenaline our body produces. It is the fight or flight response, and when it leaves our body it feels the same as if we have been going on a sugar and caffeine high and the fuel just burned off and dropped us. You are trying to do too much, and care too much and you need that little trip hubby is sending you on.

Yes.....they are very wearing! Some are self inflicted and sometimes the emotions come from outside sources but they can just plain make you all out tired!

Hi dear u r right too much emotion make u tired and weak i dont know much but what i analyse is that with too much emotion, it effect ur blood circulation, make it fast, add chemicals to it, heart pumping hard, blood striking yr temples and eyes, Effecting ur hole metabolism and so when it become normal then u feel exhausted/weakness/tiredness Hey its my observation, might be wrong Take care

Yes, this is also true for me. It doesn't seem to matter whether the emotions are good or bad either. I feel just as drained when I'm laughing hysterically as when I get angry and argue with someone. I think its draining because we have to put out a lot of energy to express intense emotions.

certainly emotions make your tired. Try to learn the ways of controlling it and express in proper way so that your health will not get affected. for example, whenever you got anger make a deep breeth, it will dis appear.Try to do meditation daily.
