I knit my sweaters and vests. I got started when I was a kid when I knitted a pair of slippers for myself. It took me 8 months to knit the slippers and I got to wear them once. I went to put them on the next day and one of the slippers was missing. I searched high and low, and was very puzzled because I had been very careful with them and had laid them out on my chair so that they would be ready for me to wear the next morning. We were all very puzzled by the missing slipper for about three days. Then my dad came in and stated that he knew where the slipper went. We all quizzed him but all he would do is lead us outside to the back yard. He pointed down at a spot near one of my Mom's rose bushes and there was some of the remains of my slipper...in dog poop! My standard poodle had an appetite for wool and had eaten the missing slipper.
It took a while after that, but I got started knitting my sweaters and have been doing it for the past 30 years. I prefer to do patterns that require concentration (I love doing fisherman knits).
I also sew my own clothes and have been doing that since I was a teenager. I was started in sewing when I was three. My mom would go to the fabric store and the owner would have little bags of pieces of lace and ribbon and some fabric for me. I would take them home and would work with them for hours. Now, not only do I make my clothes, do tailoring for others, but I also design and make teddy bears and dog coats that I sell at craft shows.

I don't sew all that well (I make household things and do repairs), but I do knit quite a bit. I've made a lot of socks, both for myself and others, vests, sweaters and things like that. I have a lot of yarn (was given to me), so as soon as I get a few projects caught up and the weather gets cold, I want to find a couple of good sweater patterns so I can make a few. I need them and there's no sense in buying them as long as I have the free yarn to make them with.

I have knitted a few things in the past.
My children's school jumpers when they were 5 were knitted by me.
I get times where i am very keen on knitting and then long stretches of time when it bores me.
I have sewn things before to wear.
One of my tops is sewn using material from a dress that bought in the charity shop because I wanted the material.
My daughter had a little checked coat that I made from a woolen dressing gown .It lasted a good long time and then we gave it to the charity shop so hopefully somebody else got some use from it too.
Sometimes it is not cheaper to make your clothes though .

My mother used to make things for her and my sister, she taught me osme thing like fixing holes and buttons and things like that but not enough to make an intire outfit. I would be neat to do that and probably save lots on clothes that way.

I used to make some of my own clothing. I made alot of skirts and tops. I have tried and failed at making pants. I never seem to get them right. I always try to make tops without buttons, because I am really bad at that also lol. I now make dresses for my little girl. To get started I would advise a simple pattern, nothing to big or with lots of little details. I started with a skirt and vest set. The skirt was just A-lined with an elastic waist. Sewing is so much fun and for me...very relaxing.

I haven't knitted for years and I'm quite good at it, when I was pregnant with my children I knitted all their cardigans and I felt so proud when I dressed them in my hand knitted garments.
