What causes insomnia and what can one do to get rid of it ? Do you suffer from this or know someone who does , did they overcome it and how ?
I am sooo tired and really want to sleep but when I lay down I am unable to settle my mind and have not been sleeping well at all . I tried sleeping pills from the pharmacy and they did nothing at all to help , and would really like to kwow what others do when they are unable to sleep . It seems I get my best sleep if I lay down during the day but this is hard to do as I have to watch the little one's and get things done around the house so only get to do this when my husband is home to help out a bit . How does one overcome this and what started it in the first place ?

I suffer from this to can't go to sleep but want to . I usually end up sitting on the internet all night waiting for boredom or sleepiness to take over but the sun is alywas coming up before I finlly see any of that . I don't have to get up as early so I can sleep in sometimes but when I cna't it makes me tired for the day and then it starts all over again at night .

I think what causes it is the inability to shut our brain down in order for it to rest and for our body to sleep...but I'm not sure..I would have to look it up...
I probably do have it to an extent...I don't need to nap during the day but can stay up very late....I crochet..then use the computer...when I go up to bed I read every nite....I'm not falling asleep until like 3 or 4 even if I go to bed at 9 or 10..but I like to read and I finally am able to go to sleep...I average 5 to 6 hours a nite...
I used to be a sleeper...sometimes upwards of 12 hours or more...not anymore...I have to get up and get grandkids off to school and my daughter to work...then pick up the boys and so I have things going on now that I didn't before so I slept alot...
I prefer being busy...I am severly anemic and there are times I just have to sleep...because I am so tired...and have no energy at all....
I don't think I was any help here...I would have to research it because I don't know anyone that has it....

Doing things in bright light, like television and computer are counter productive. So is having music on that has words you know. Random music is fine, your brain does not try to sing along with it. Crocheting, knitting, rocking, all rhythmic things, are supposed to put you to sleep, relax you.Journaling is supposed to help. Reading in bed is supposed to relax you.

Thank you for that bit of information because I didn't know that about the television and t.v . Maybe I will try journaling a bit and see how that helps :) Anything is worth a try at this point .

Yeah you sound pretty much like myself except there are nights that the last time I look at the clock it is around 5 or 6 no matter what time I go to bed and then I have to be up at 7 to get the children ready for school and can't just go back to bed because I have another little one at home and have things to do as well . I do think it has something to do with not being able to shut our brains down as well and wish I knew how to do this so I wouldn't be so tired all the time .
Thank you for your response .

Too much going on in your life I think . I don't suffer from this I work night shift and my problem is being able to get sleep . I work all night and then have to come home and watch my kids in the morning and am lucky if I can get more then a couple of hours sleep a day . And then back to work that night with no sleep . If I am lucky I can get a little bit of sleep at work but this doesn't happen very often . Hope you sleep tongith .

It is not because I am excited during the day because this has been going on for months and is really starting to get to me . I have tried reading books before I go to bed as this used to help but it doesn't seem to work anymore .
Thank you for your response .

I have the same thing as you. I really want to sleep, but I do not get much sleep at night. Like you, if I watch TV from my bed in the afternoon, I can get a catnap from time to time, and that is a really restful nap. But when it comes to sleeping at night that's where the fight begins. regardless of how late I go to bed at night I am still up before six in the morning.
I think when you go to sleep with a lot on your mind, it tends to keep you awake.
Even if you do not realize that you are worrying about something, your brain knows.
I am looking for a good solution too. I have used over the counter sleep aids, they make me sleepy, but when I go to bed, I do not stay asleep.
Wish you luck in your quest to find a remedy for your sleeplessness.

I can think up of a great number of causes that creates insomnia such as old age, eating before going to sleep, uncomfortable bed, stress, trouble at home or at work. I am sure that there are other factors which can contribute to insomnia.
Usually I lack sleep in summer because of the heat.

I wish I knew I suffer from this to . I was taking sleeping pills but they didn't help much either so I went to my doctor and they gave me a generic brand of Ativan . They help but then my mom told me that they were really addictive so now I am scared to take them and back to not sleeping again . I do have a lot going on and maybe that is why I can't sleep but I am too young for this . I LIKE SLEEPING why can't I !!!!!

I don't know what causes insomnia but I do know one great remedy.
Tylenol PM, just half a tab, puts you out for 6 hours.
Its not good to use constantly but I've done it on occasion and it works beautifully.

I have insomnia too, and sleeping pills just give me headaches in the morning or make me tired and I dont like that. one of my problems is that my husband snores lol. Sometimes reading a book can help or listening to classical music in bed or even an old black and white movie. Try not to drink caffeine to in late in the day, or eat too late, and try not to worry to much about things , that may help also.
