saying grace before meal is a Christian tradition that are very much taken for granted today not only inside the home but specially outside when you think that others might pick on you if you pray your meal at their sight. imagine praying before eating your burger or meal inside Macdonald's and other fast food and class restaurant with many people looking on you.as a Christian will you just eat at once and skip praying in fear of catching so much attention and embarrassment as you think.

The other night before dinner my guy looks deep into my eyes in silence. I ask why he is looking at me like that. He responded You didn't Pray, don't you say Grace? I politely told him I Pray all day long. This made me feel though hmm, should I show others I am thankful for my food or do I keep this private between me and my God? What do you think?

praying is communicating with God,a show of reverence and thanksgiving for what God has done and doing in your life...and though we are tought to refrain from public praying like the publican ways..it is the motive actually that makes a prayer wrong in the sight of God...and saying grace for thanksgiving and praise before meal in public or at home is good i believe... just a simple pray, a merely soft spoken word or a simple silent prayer is good enough..i suppose...not to disturb others

As Christian we always believe that God will always bless us in every way and that we always have to pray to HIM. In the bible its says, "PRAY WITHOUT CEASING." When we wake up in the morning we have to pray, or before going to bed or when we are going out of our house or if we are in the bus anywhere we should pray for HIM for HIM to guide as in every way we had. In eating of course we will pray to thank on HIM the blessings He give to us. There no way that people will be shy on praying. Dont mind the people around you. You can close your eyes and say a short prayer. Thats it. Simple as that. You will not know that those people looking at you will pray also. Thats gonna be better right? Happy my lotting!

I honestly do not pray before meals, but I am trying hard to change that. I am working harder to say even a small prayer before I eat even when I am out on a date with my boyfriend. Actually one time I was praying when I was at a restaurant and the waiter prayed with us it was pretty cool.

actually it's very cool praying over a meal, specially when we eat something we're not the one who cook and prepare for it. who knows there are some mistakes happen and something in your food might negatively affect you, if given a prayer and thanksgiving and asking God to cleanse the food by his word and your prayer, so it will be clean indeed..and praying even on date before dinner or lunch will add more strenght on your bonding together...

Hi arnoldream,
My wife and I do pray before meals. We try and be very thankful for what the Lord has provided. However when in public,we try and do it in a quite, private manner because it is not about us, it is about how good God is. We don't want to make a scene or make it out to be some short of circus drawing all kinds of attention to us. Again it is not about us and how holy we are, it is about how great and good God is. We also try and remember to be thankful for it is easy to take things for granted. God bless, Leofajohnson

God bless you too george! there are many things in life that we should be thankful about, and one of these are being bless by God with food on our table to partake with thanksgiving and gratitude for the goodness he is bestowing upon us, and it doesn't just a matter of doing it only at home but wherever you are, and if it becomes integrated within you, praying before meal is not awkward as we think but rather a blessing and an example for others to follow with....thanks for such great comments coming from you george!

Well, on the contrary, I feel proud of myself every time I pray before meals, even in public places. I don't really understand what people should be ashamed of doing things that profess their faith. Also, it's actually become a habit of mine, having graduated from Catholics schools from grade school all throughout college, and I don't think meals would be complete without saying grace first.

I do not pray before my meals, but then again, I'm not a Christian. It has just been interesting for me to note in the past, how many people I know pray before their meal, despite not being religious themselves and even going to church. It's just a tradition that has been grinded into them, that they follow blindly. As a matter a fact, the prayer is often the same old words (almost a rhyme) that is always repeated without fail. In my mind, that isn't really praying at all.

Yes, I still pray before eating. It's one of the values that my parents taught me. And I plan to teach the same value to my kids.
Even when I'm in public places, I still say my prayer before eating. I'm not embarrassed to be a Christian. I am who I am, I don't care if they see me as someone who's square & dull just because I practice my religion. They don't know me and I don't know them. The only opinion that matters are my loved ones' opinions, not strangers.
