Do you go to Heaven or Hell when you die?

Do you believe at the time life leaves your body that your soul assends to Heaven (if your saved) or to Hell (if your a sinner)? Simple question, But I don't really want a simple anwser. What ever your anwser is can you give Bible verse to back it up. I'd like to read it for myself. I haven't been to church in a good while, and I don't read the Bible as I should, so I'm not as smart as some one who reads and studies there Bible daily. But what I remember from what I learned going to church was that everybody believed when they died they were going to heaven, but what I remember the Preacher saying is that when Jesus returned for the church, at that time the saints living and dead would assend to the judgement. So am i wrong, if so give me Bible verse to study. So if i'm right, were does the soul go to await Jesus's coming, or do we just like sleep an await for Jesus's wake up call. Please give Bible verses so I can study this for myself. Who knows maybe it will help me to read the bible for myself. Thank You.
