My daughter and I were at Walmart and she was looking for a flash drive for her computer and when we found it, she tried to take it off the rack and it wouldn't come off....Then she realized that it wasn't going to come off due to a security attachment thing a ma jig....*very technical term*
She wanted to read it but all the written areas she needed were on the back of it...Well do to the thing a ma jig keeping it on the rack..she couldn't turn it enough to see it...and the writing was so small she would have needed a magnifying glass anyway...
She was pressed for time as she had to go to work so she said.."screw it" and she would come back later when she could ask the clerk to remove it so she could read it....
My husband was saying it is due to them getting stolen...so now they have a security thing keeping them there.....*smiles*
How sad that people have to steal stuff....They are quite small and easy to take...At least they were until now.....
She just wanted to read it...not steal it...
What do you think about everything being locked up at the store?
I can understand all the reasons why...It is just sad that they have to lock everything up..

hi feona its sad that people think they have to steal everything
but hey the stores wou ld go broke unless they found a way to protect merchandise that otherwise might just walk out the
front door otherwise. Even in libraries we have people who lose to steal an expensive book, so finally they were driven to
put special theft detectors in the spines of each book to stop the theft. if the person does not checkout thge book then the sensor is not shut down and emits a long ringing noise if'they attempt to go out the front door. hence they are caught wih the bookor books they just stole. It is indeed sad.

Hi Hatley...
I am glad that they can protect their merchandise....
That is a great idea for the library..but I am sure it had to be quite an expense to do it....and what's sad is the books at the library are "free" to check out...no reason to steal them..

You might as well get a babysitting job....Kids won't be walking off with much..*smiles*...
They are alot of work and you shouldn't have to babysit adults just because they want to be sneaky...

I think it is sad that it has to be done but the stores have to protect what they h ave so WE as the consumer don't get charged more for these items.

Hi StrawberryKisses...
That is exactly what will happen...We will get charged more to make up for the stolen item...so all the security is a must...It is just sad...

The worst of all is the precautions being necessary because businesses are losing too much money. We are fast becoming a nation of shoplifters and thieves. I am not sure if that is because we are not raising our children properly or our economy is so bad people do not have the money to pay for what they need.

It is probably a little of both....There has always been theft, but some seem to make a living at it....
The more they take though, will make prices go up...so they need to lock it all up to make sure they don't lose and that they don't have to be charged more..
I don't think it is a need...like food....so much as "want and desire"...video games..computer parts...stuff like that...

lol, I agree with you. It's crazy they have to do that. But a few bad apples ruin it for us all. Remember when you could take stuff off the shelf and look at it? Funny, with all those cameras and security tags on the inside, how do they get stolen? Maybe they just need better security. Maybe they should try real people? Or better yet make em work side by side to make sure and absolutely positive that no one can steal anything.

u are so right but i understand why they have to lock everything up. u can never find a clerk when u need one at our wal-mart.peole will steal anything. i was talking to a frien of mine in texas yesterday checking to see if she was having any trounle from the hurricane. she was telling me this lady has been cleaning for her forever & her son comes along to do the heavier things for his mother. he stold every bit of clara's jewelry, the heathren. she want press charges on account of his mother. of course he's going to pay her back, etc.[yeah, right]i know clara she has been good to both of them but doesn't matter anymore.

That is so bad....I mean really...I would have pressed charges...It wouldn't go against his mother...although I am sure she would feel like it was her fault...
People like that (her son) drive me crazy.....He should have to go to jail...I doubt that he will pay her back...If he was going too, he wouldn't have taken it in the first place....
Money doesn't replace family heirlooms...
Hugs to Clara...

i agree w/u but clara is such a soft hearted person she want do it. his parents told her to but u know how that would go. i had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. i had workers in the house. i didn't miss my jewelry till later & there was no way i could prove they did it. i knew in my heart they did. belive me, i would have pressed charges & wouldn't have cared if they'd shot them. i had my greatgrandmother's wedding band, my grandmother diamond rind, another diamond ring & an a\opal ring. i went to ever pawn shop in the surrounding towns but had no luck.

That is sad, but it is the way the world has become..One thing I don't like, but understand why they did it, was our bank and how you go in..They have double doors, that are both locked..To get in or out, there is this red light that when it is green, you can open one door and then you have to wait until the second doors red light turns green..It is a pain and takes too long to go in and do your banking..

Hi carmelanirel...
Almost feels like a jail cell just to get into the bank...Wow!! That has to be a nightmare...
I understand all the precautions but gee whiz...
Thank you to all the people who are dishonest...

At our local walmart they have begun to look over receipts when something bought is not in a sack. Some of them overdo and want to check everything.

Hi irishidid....
Good grief...what next? I can understand to a point but the checkouts are near the exit so you can't really go back into the store.. you have to pretty much leave right from the checkout lane....
Pretty soon everyone is going to have a security shopping buddy to go with them...*smiles*

Try going on wikipedia or some such place to read up on things like this.
Most of the time you'll have to open the package to read everything anyway.
Its better to know before you go into the store.

That is true as I have too noticed that at Walmart and other bigger malls here also have started locking the small n costly components as they fear of getting picked up by the mob thronging in the malls just for the sake of time pass kind of a thing.
This is good also.
But they should at least brief the contents of the product to the customer (as ur baby) in this case so that they should not feel bad abt that.

I agree that it is a sad state of affairs that the honest people must pay for the sins of the dishonest. Flash drives are very easily placed in a pocket. It seems they could use security similar to those they use on CDs that sound an alarm if not removed.I, like your daughter have walked away instead of buying due to the hassle...especially at Wal~mart where getting help is more difficult than pulling hen's teeth.

They should put sensors on everything...It is a hassle and not worth the effort sometimes....I just read in our daily paper where a kid got caught with a M3 player game or something similar in his pocket...It went off when he walked past the security poles....

They use the sensors here & the only problem I have with that is whoever applies them sticks them over the most important part of the instructions/description & you still can't read what it is you need to know. However, sensors make total sense to me. A local store had someone walk out with over 100 iPods & nobody noticed what they were doing. Not sure which door they used. Just shows that where there's a will there's a way!!!

I guess it can't be helped that there has to be some sort of "security" for pretty much everything... just blame it on the thieves who just live their lives by stealing... they just need to get a life LOL
Heck, when I went to the public library a few days ago, I found this security guard, and I could tell that there were so many robberies going on in that library, which is why they deployed a security guard there -_-;;

Hi animeniak...
Things are really messed up if the library (of all places) needs a security guard...
These people actually make a living at stealing...I haven't got time to even think about doing things like that....

yea it's pretty darn pitiful isn't it? I've never seen a security guard in a library, and it's actually my first time in like 19 1/2 years... -0-;;

Well i understand your feeling , but seriously i think it is better to lock everything at the store then luring people to steal it by not locking it yea.

Yeah, it's unfair that the store has to lock everything up just because of those thieves.
