When we were kids we were taught how to write properly and legibly. In fact, our teachers also conducts writing contest. With the ever rapid growing technology, we are currently bound to type almost all the time. Whether if its typing on a computer or texting on a cellphone. A lot of activities in writing are almost obsolete including love letters and love notes. Based from the evolution of technolgy, my experienced to this is somehow sad because I used to write really good, like as in calligraphy handwriting. Then afterwards when I started going to college, that's the time when my skill started to diminished. Also because we type a lot during classes and free time, because computers are all there is nowadays and somehow back then. Sadly, Right now I only use pens for signatures and some forms to be filled up like for example openning a savings or a checking account in a bank.
Somehow we tend to lose what we have learned in exchange for something better. Though I miss that kind of skill. Making love letters with your own hands and jotting it down with pure passion and beauty. How about you? Despite of the ever changing times, can you still write legibly?

My writing is still very legible, and in fact it has stayed so since my secondary school days. One thing I always strive to perfect myself in is to write as beautifully and as neatly as I can, and I can't tolerate any mistakes or errors that I make on my handwriting! I know it seems quite like an obsessive compulsive disorder, but I guess my nature is that I am a perfectionist and I always try to be as "perfect" and neat as possible. Since my childhood days right up until today, people have been praising my handwriting, claiming that it is so neat and that it is rare for a guy like me to write with such neat handwriting. I always blush at such comments from others, sweeping them off as just flattery sometimes, but when I look at my own handwriting, I really do feel that it's neat and nice and I am totally satisfied with it. I have even tried to write as cursive or as badly as I can, but I just can't....I can't fake my handwriting and I can only write in that one neat style that I have. Haha, sometimes I am indeed envious of my friends who can write in a few different handwriting types! But I guess I have to be satisfied with the gift that has been bestowed upon me, and I am indeed grateful and thankful to God for that gift!

Yes, it indeed is....but I just hope that it would be able to last till I'm much older, because in general handwriting tends to grow worse as we grow older. Haha, it would be nice if I could enter a handwriting competition; I could really show my talent there!

My handwriting used to be so nice and neat. People used to compliment me on it all the time but once I got out of high school and typed all my papers, and typed all my reports at work, and even typed love letters to my husband, my writing is trash! It looks horrible compared to what it used to look like. Before long, kids will have to know how to type before they learn how to write and their may be no need for handwriting at all.

Yeah that's what scares me too. The beauty and essence of handwriting is slowly diminishing.

I never was able to write legibly. I wanted to write like my maternal grandmother who grew up in England and not with the childish looking writing they have over here. I tried, but could not manage it. I wanted my writing to appear so that someone would say a woman past the age of twelve wrote this. I do write a good signature, but that entails taking time, and I leave that for signature samples, opening an account, writing a check. And since my wrist hurts because I broke it, I find that I can only write so long before it gets messed up.
So computers and typewriters had nothing to do with it, I never was that good to begin with.

Hi mchavez11,
I can still write but I find it rather awkward due to lack of practice. I am more used to typing now lol.
As for whether it is legible, yes, I can make it legible. Just that it might not be the nicest ever that I have accomplished.

My printing is pretty nice and neat, but my handwriting can very depending on my mood. If I am rushing, then my writing might be a lot more sloppy, if I am just taking my time, then my writing will look nice.

I never could, because my hands shake, for some unknown reason. My teachers used to complain about my writing, and one even tried to force me to be able to write clearly, but her effort was in vain. MY hands shook! I told her that some day we'd all be using computers anyway, and as it turns out, I was right!! Now I am immensely proud of my lousy handwriting, all because I won the battle over one witchy teacher.

i used to have writen beautifully in my high schoole, actually, especially junior high school. yes, that's a lengendary and brilliant time for me, for i always got some awards for my handwriting.but as you've said, when stepping in the college, everything is changing. i am no longer proud of my handwriting ever. but at the same time, me myself lose the interest of writing beautifully when it comes to some writing stuff. no eagerness to write it well and legibly, just left some scratchy and rough words. i just thought that when something you are quite familiar with or good at, you wouldn't give it a crap, instead, just taking it as something is slightly important. this is very pathetic, how comes with that indifference?

These days, about the only time that I get a chance to write on paper is when I do the crossword puzzle. I don't do so well legibility-wise so I suppose if I were to write something on paper it would look like something a doctor would write on a prescription form. Cheers!!

It is such a shame that our kids aren't being taught penmenship any longer in school. Yes, it's true that we use computers a lot for creating documents and stuff, but we should still be able to write legibly enough so that if we write a grocery list others can still read our handwriting so they can tell they're supposed to pick up milk! I still write by hand almost every day, especially since I keep a regular journal. It seems that the process of writing by hand is the way that I create the best, too. Many times if I'm staring at a blank page on the computer and no thoughts will come, if I get out the paper and pen, the words will start to flow. I have nice handwriting but it's not an art form, exactly. lol. I just think it's important that we all still know how to write by hand and have good penmenship.

I still do write legibly and in fact I even write for you. Especially during filling out raffle stubs and application forms. Seeing you write makes me feel that you're having a hard time doing it. Lol.
