Direct Sales. Would you do this to earn extra money or as a Home Business?

I'm curious to see how many are involved with Direct Sales or would consider Direct Sales as a Home Business. Wikpedia defines Direct Sales as the marketing of products or services to consumers by demonstrations, presentations, and phone calls. Direct Sales can be an opportunity for individuals to find fulfillment, express entrepreneurial talents, and gain financial independence.
Some of the popular Direct Sales companies are Mary Kay, Avon, and Pampered Chef. If you considered this, what would your criteria be before you join? Any thoughts?

I would and have and do consider it. I have sold Avon in the past and did really really well with it. I was averaging $500 - $700 a campaign (which is every 2 weeks). That was crazy! I made a decent amount from quite a bit of work but I loved Avon. I moved and lost all my customers and where I live now, well it's pretty rural and there are a lot of Avon reps. Plus I was looking for something that I didn't have to work so hard for the amount I made. $500 is a lot of product! By the way I still love Avon! But they say direct sales is the way to go if you are looking to start your own business and don't have thousands of dollars to do so. Yep, I'm back into direct sales but I don't have a specific product line I sell. I sell thousands of products...I own my own shopping portal with over 600 stores. It's amazing and I love it. I highly recommend direct sales.
