Does blogger.com have to have access to my google adsense account?

I recently signed up with google adsense and im using my blogger.com account for that. I added a gadget that would enable me to use adsense through blogger.com. I received an email from google adsense saying that in order to use adsense through blogger.com, i'll have to grant blogger.com access to the ad code and reports in my adsense account. Do i have to? I want to make sure that im receiving a legit email not a scam email. For those who have applied for google adsense, did you receive the same email. What did you do about it?
