We live about 100 miles from Houston and Ike's eye has not reached us yet though it should in the next couple of hours. We are now running on generator power as we have lost electricity. We have several trees down, high winds, and heavy rain. Hoping for the best, all we can do now is wait it out. Hurricanes do not usually come this far inland, but Ike is stubborn and is remaining a category 1 hurricane as it approaches us. If you are in the path of this terrible storm, or have had to evacuate because of it, how are you dealing with it? Are you and your family safe? You are in my prayers! I have attached a photo of the wind lashing our trees!

Katrina was my first hurricane. Beings I'm 120 miles from the mississippi gulf coast I figured it would be no big deal. I took my kids and went to work the night before she hit. I didn't see my house for another week because we couldn't get back home. When one of these storms decides to hang like katrina and ike they travel far before they break down. It's a shame he isn't collapsing as fast as Gustav did. Good luck riding him out

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! Rita was my first one....they just don't usually make it this far! And Rita did not last nearly as long as this one already has. We are only about midway through it! The back side of the storm should be here before too much longer. Uhg!

I have been watching Ike too, Ike is doing some damage in Texas, I heard millions of people are without electricity and will be for about the next 2 weeks. It is so sad the devastation that is going on flooding and all. I am not in Texas but for some reason this act of nature always disturbs me. Whenever I hear of a hurricane I can't stop watching the weather channel. I hope you and your family stay safe. I am praying for everyone.

Thank you so much! We have been out of power for several hours now (except for our generator) and do not know how long it will be out. Hopefully it will be back on soon!

I am here in San Antonio, TX well away from Ike, but I had family over in the Beaumont and Port Arthur area that went ahead and evacuated. They are here in San Antonio. Hope everything works out fine for you and stay safe.
