A Great Friend

I was surprised this morning by a phone call from my good friend who lives in the same building. We often do little things for one another "just because." Anyway, she informed me that she was on the way up to my apartment to bring me a little gift. I couldn't imagine what it was. When she arrived a few minutes later she had brought me cigarettes and pop. It was coincidental to me because I had just phoned her minutes before she called me to ask her if she would be sending out to the store because I was out of cigarettes. Do you have such a friend who sometimes anticipates your needs? I will often cook a meal and invite her to share it, or give her an item of jewelry since I don't wear it that much. She told me that she had hit the numbers last night and she likes to share with her friends when she does.

Hello my friend...I think that's fabulous that you have a friend like that. I think my next door neighbour might turn out to be one of those friends.
I went over there today to see how her cooking was going. We are helping to cater for a function in our little town this Saturday. I mentioned that I had meant to ring my elder daughter first thing this morning and I had slept in and I was a bad mother. She asked if it was my daughter's birthday and I said no...she left today for a six weeks overseas holiday with my 12 year old granddaughter. I was upset that I hadn't managed to be in touch before she left (and she hadn't contacted me)...I got a lovely motherly cuddle from my new friend and some thoughtful words that immediately made me feel better. Good friends are really wonderful.

That is a good friend. I do have one, that is like that. She somehow seems to be able to read my mind.

Hi Worldwise1, I was getting ready to respond to your discussion and started to read all the comments when I saw that this was posted a year ago and that your friend had passed away. It is a nice tribute to her that you re-opened this discussion. I can only offer you online sympathies, it seemed that the two of you truly understood and realized how special friendships can be.
