Well, I've fed my dogs chocolate cake and they're still alive.
I've given them all kinds of sweets and they are fine. Chocolate
can be a problem, but only if they eat just chocolate and lots
of it. I mean like solid chocolate, not something with chocolate
flavor. My dogs love ice cream and they only get it occasionly.
It gives them loose bowels, any thing with dairy products in it
will give them the runs. So so ahead feed them a cookie, they'll
love you for it.

Dogs won't die if you feed them chocolate or sweets. they might get
sick because those things are not good for them. It is really hard on
their poor teeth. Dogs are like people they don't really need any chocolate
or sugar in their diet. Dogs don't know any better they will eat what you are
eating. So we have to learn what is good to feed our dogs and what is not .

If you want to pamper your dogs with new treats, that's great- but be sure to get the type of treats that are MADE for dogs. They have specialty shops all over now- doggy ice cream, cookies, cakes- you name it.
Giving your dog a little piece of chocolate isn't going to kill him in an hour. It can cause many issues though- vomiting, diarreah, and even hemmoragic gastroenteritis. The risks are not quite worth the half a second it's going to take for the dog to eat the treat is it?
Basically, it's a toxin. You may not see the damage right away, but it all adds up in the body. Keep feeding things that are toxic to dogs, and you're going to end up with a dog that has organ failure, plain and simple.
Keep one thing in mind though- if you're snacking on M & M's and your dog is giving you those "puppy dog eyes" and you're feeling guilty, the dog doesn't care if he gets an M & M or a milkbone.. and the milkbone is a lot more safe and appropriate for the dog to snack on.

they will only die if they have a large amount, my friends staffy eats magic stars occasionally and she is fit as a fiddle. Don't give them choc every day but once in a while will not kill them

I ask my vetrinarian this question once because my dog loves chocolate. He told me that a little bit of chocolate isnt going to hurt a dog and he said that if fed too much the dog would probably die from being overweight before dying from just the chocolate. So I dont know..just what I was told.

Depending on the size of the dog, they will probably only die if they eat a lot. It is more likely that they will just get really sick, but you wouldn't want that so don't feed them chocolate. Dogs were made to eat a diet mostly of meat so if you are going to give them something then give them meat scraps. Carrots and rice are good too but only in small amounts, don't give them too much.

Yes it's true there's something in chocolate that's poisonous to dogs. eating chocolate doesn't automatically mean they'll die. If your dog just takes one or two licks at some chocolate, it's possible that it might be able to get away with it without any ill effects. A higher dosage, and probably a stomach upset. And yes, ingesting too much chocolate can kill a dog. How much is "too much" depends on the size of your dog.

Chocolate is very bad for dogs. I don't think it will instantly kill them, but i would avoid it. Any thing with sugar is bad. As a mattter of fact there are many things that are not good for dogs to eat or drink....like grapes and coffee. Poinsettia plants are not good either. Best thing to do is to look it up. FYI not everything you buy at a pet store is good for them. I once bought treats for my dog at a pet store not knowing it contained cocoa.

It is true that there is something in chocolate that is poisonous to dogs.
Chocolate drops that are meant for dogs are specially made and is not the same as our chocolate.
(Grapes are also very bad for dogs too)
Obviously giving dogs anything that is not meant for them, is pretty detrimental to their health.
Carrots are supposed to be good, or else just stick to doggie treats.
