Why people choose to answer an easy discussion?

I made a survey, nope, this is my own experience of making discussions. One day I made a discussion where people needs to think a little harder to answer the discussion, I thought it would be good as a discussion, and would be great if there would be a little debate about that, but in ended up, no answers, or just one or two answers.
And one day, I made a silly discussion, simply like 'why this' and 'why that', discussions that is easy to answer and actually has nothing to be discussed about that. But surprisingly, people like it. They came to answer those questions. Either with long answers or just one line post. But those silly question even came to the today's top!!
Why are people keep choosing easy discussion, while actually there is nothing to be discussed over there? Why are people keep coming to the discussions like that while there is actually many discussion that have a deep and meaningful concern? I am not ranting or whining or trying to be offensive, but I am just curious :)

People are busy and they tend to choose the easy way of doing things whether it be here or in life in general. Why do you think the world is so messed up? We think we are doing ourselves favors by working 24/7 and using technology to make things easier. But is life really easier now than it was 70 years ago? No it is just more busy. I am a person that does not like to sit idly and do nothing. My kids will probably be the same way. If I am sitting doing nothing I feel as if I am wasting time. I guess that is probably why there are not many answers to questions that really take thought. People are getting on here strictly to make a little money every day.

I do make money here too... and from what I have experienced, answering for the better discussion also earn you money, sometimes bigger than those who answers easy discussion and only submit some lines posts. I believe when myLot said that they would pay us for our thought means the more thoughtful answer we out on the discussion, the more we are going to get paid. Maybe I am wrong but at least that's my belief until now LOL

you are absolutely right, klaudine. i have pretty similar experiences with you, i mean....no, i don't start a though discussion but i found that thoughtful discussions mostly get less responses than the easier ones.
yet, i still think we don't intentionally choose the easy discussions. rather, we choose the mediocre ones, the manageable discussions. because i find so many very easy discussions end up being stuck in the bottom layer of 'no responses'. you know, like 'favorite' discussions, and interrogative discussions (what is your name, what is the story behind your user name, how old are you, do you like a pet, do you have sisters, do you have brothers, do you have sisters and brothers, how many relative do you have, what is your hobbies....)
well, i did read some difficult and deep-meaning discussions.... while i was reading the whole (lengthy)description, i kept wondering what to say to respond it. it was a nice but too complicated discussion. sometimes i had a lot to say, but didn't know how to express it. and, despite my eagerness to respond it, i ended up leaving the discussion.
i think some other mylotters also experience this similar things, especially the ones who speak english as their second language. 'being stuck' such a situation, we face two big challenges in responding a hard-responding topic: what to say, and how to say
anyway, i realize i should force myself to start responding them. otherwise my skill and knowledge and my-i won't improve here, and i will end up keeping responding 'interrogative discussions'

Your explanation about the nature of human laziness really opened my eyes. It is true than people are naturally lazy and thinking about the comfort living more than have to work hard to reach something that they want. Yes it is true that when we are working harder we would get rewarded more, but the natural laziness would put aside the thoughts of getting more reward to just get a reward with an easy work.

Before I answer your discussion, here is a question for you: why do you come to mylot and why do you still remain active here?
Many people sign in to mylot to relax, spend some time away from their tiring and stressful work, to make friends and socialise and most of all enjoy themselves. Many people respond to easy discussions because those responses pop into their head the minute they read the discussion, a very relaxing thing since not much effort is needed. Imagine if your superior just gave you tones of problems to solve at work, would you still want to think so much when you finally got a chance to forget about the work?
For those who are here to make money, time is precious to them. The more post they make, the more they earn and thus answering easy discussion would be the way to go as you can accomplish more in a given time frame.
For those who come to make friends, do you think you would be more friendly if you asked an easy question or a hard one? Easy questions will tend to lead to longer discussions and thus people will know you better and enjoy the discussion more. You would have more things in common.
Lastly, people are here to enjoy themselves. I doubt that there are many people who think solving complex problems or responding to discussions that require some thinking as an enjoyable thing.

I have to say, answering some discussions that require some thinking are good because I seem to earn slightly more from it. I tend to give lengthy answers and may be that contributed to higher earnings.

Right! See? That is why I said that answering for some discussions that need deeper thought would give you more benefit, because you wouldn't just wasting time answering some meaningless discussion with short posts LOL. But I appreciate all your decisions though Keep posting and have a nice day

people really don't like to get to deeply involved in serious subjects,
or some are afraid they will answer wrong, but an opinion isn't considered
a wrong answer, but rather its a statement or a point of view.
I have wrote very serious content and never heard from anyone, although
i know my stories were read, they were to powerful not to be read.
like you i wrote a simple off the wall story and i got responses off of that one.
If the topic is to serious or it makes people not want to feel a certain way they pass it up.
Everyone should read the serious stuff as well, because that is how we sometimes help each other to understand some situations that we all face everyday.
Just because we don't know each other in person, we do sometimes get to know each other through our writing, our personalities are in our writing as well, you can figure who a person is inside just by reading what they write about, you can get to know how they feel about different situations, different social concerns, about life itself.
No one should be afraid to answer a serious article and if you don't understand it, just ask, thats what we are here for, for each other and to learn from one another, there are some times i know i sound like i'm whinning, but thats life also
that is part of us just like laughing or crying let your emotions go crazy on paper
we are human. maggie

Thank you very much maggie.
You also have a good point here. People sometimes just afraid of giving comments because they don't want to give the wrong advise. And that is why people tend to skip the tough discussion and get to the easier ones. Simply because they don't have to think much about that, and simply that their opinion won't give too much effects to the topic starter.
If you ask about personal matters, the answer would be your reference, and if people giving the wrong reference, you would fall. That's why they was afraid to give comments on your tough discussion LOL. But I like your opinion. Thank you for your participation maggie, keep posting :)

I noticed that too, but mine was most probably because chemistry and laboratory are hardly everyday discussions. The mere fact that this is a forum means that people come here to relax and not to be too serious. I have to accept that fact that things I may consider worth discussing are not really that interesting..and I realized , if people wanted to seriously learn, they would have attended a class in school instead. We will just have to think of interesting questions that could appeal to everyone. All the best.

Well... I can understand if the discussion is about chemistry and laboratory, but how about life? How about social problems? Aren't they interested in something like that? Well... I think people has different interest in making discussions and responding to them. You might be right, maybe the best thing is to make something that appealing for everyone. :) Thank you Jenaisle. Happy myLotting :)

A bit like taking the easy way out I reckon, but you have to take into account that many users of these type of sites are from abroad and they use them to gain command of the english language so then an easy discussion would be the best option for them, just a thought

That could be true. I saw many people here are not using English as their first language. And I don't either. I am not a native English speaker, because I am from Indonesia, so I think if you want to improve and learn, you have to move from those easy to the harder one, at least to those post who need a little thinking so that they can at least improve the vocabulary too :p

i understand your feeling. the same thing goes for me too, i really wonder why those require non thinking (or less thinking to be precised) discussions always come the top. this is really a good discussion, i might be able to find my answer here to. perhaps, because those discussions are easy to answer, that's why so many people are willing to participate in the discussion, although usually the case is that the responses are so much of one liner. perhaps the good discussion that requires deep thought has scare people off? maybe they are too afraid to give their thoughts as they are scared to offend other people accidentally, or afraid that their answer is wrong, and many more reasons. but after surveying some of the discussions, i realise that people usually respond to silly discussion just to earn easy money, as it's easy to answer, and they can respond to as many discussion as they targetted in the least amount of time. just look at this discussion, to respond to your discussion itself, at least i have to allow more than 5 minutes for me to think for the answer. but i prefer to respond to this type of discussion, because we can share our thoughts, have more knowledge, and stil we are get paid :D

Well, you read my mind, neztin! When we try to answer the thoughtful discussion, we are not only get paid more by answering in a lengthy quality paragraph, but also we would get something for ourselves, like the new knowledge, the new experience, and we even train our brain to think deeper so that we can solve new different problems everyday.

Sorry i didn't read your last page of posts but I got the idea. I have found myself discouraged with Mylot, and it comes right after my first payout. I was frustrated by the lack of meaningful discussions other than easier ones and I do not come on here for that. Yea, I want to get paid but Im gonna use my little time that I have to answer silly questions? Then when you do try debate its like your a monster for taking the unpopular side, I even lost a star rating which put me off even more. I mean when you think about it, were not getting rich on here so for me its not worth the change for the time you give it--some people spend all day on here. I do like politics but god forbid you take the democratic side, talk about culture wars.

Yes that happened to me too, the first time I went here I found that there are so many meaningless topics and I can't find the good one. They repeat the answer over and over again and that makes me wonder if they really don't care to browse or what. I am so sorry that you lose your popularity star, to be honest, I am too. LOL. But I don't really care about the star, as I always said, I like it here because I can discuss with many people, but what kind of discussion? That is the real question :p

hi klaudine I also wondered the same thing. I came to
this conclusion. a lotof people are lazy and do not
want to rev up their grey cells so they opt for the
easy one that they dont have to spend but moments
'responding to. that is a shame as a lot of better
'discussions get left in the dust. people could take a few more minutes and put on their thinking caps, and respond to
'great discussions. we do a disservice to the person who'
put a little work into her discussion by bypassing it like
that simply because we were too lazy to stir up our brains
into thinking mode.

So you have came to the conclusion? It is true that we have a grey cell in the brain that should be trained everyday so that it can work properly. By thinking and doing some deep thinking discussion it would help us improve the performance of our grey cell. But Hatley, I wonder with those so much posts you have made, are you always came to the heavy discussions only or you also answer the easy one, because to be honest, I am sometimes came to the easy discussion because there were no good discussion at that day.

i also choose easy discussions. i guess most of mylotters are working in the office while viewing mylot website, we don't have so much time to think of a hard question or hard topics.

why? because most people understand the easy discussions are based to our personal experiences which everyone can relate.Time is running and everyone is rushing in making money online and not enough time to stop and think very well for the responses of those hard discussions. So many prefer the easy way which they can relate. Which they can have an answers.happy myloting.

That is why, when people are rushing to make money online, they shouldn't waste the time to make some quick posts with some line answers and earn a little by the posts. But I understand this point too, because sometimes making easy money is tempting more than having a good discussion and money in the same time. Thank you for your participation :)

Hi again! I think, people tend to answer easy discussions because that is easy to answer... They can easyly concretize ideas and they can easly expres themselves which makes them tend to post more, that is better than asnwering discussions in which you have to think a bit more...
Hope that makes sense.. Anyweiz, that is just my opinion..
Happy mylotting klaudine!

Maybe you're right rodelbulan. And what about you? Are you tend to answer the easy post or you try to answer the average or difficult discussions? And if you do so, why did you do that? I think people would have their own reason why they do this and that in myLot, as well as the reason why they pick the easier discussion in here. But I believe you have your own reason, rodelbulan?

I think because sometimes it's really hard to think of something to reply especially when the topic is quite difficult. Whether we admit it or not, most of us have times when we do not want to think but just talk. The way we do on our own daily lives. It depends on our mood swings. As for me there are times that I would like to answer on debates, sometimes I would just like to refresh my mind and just converse on topics that I really love to think of such as food and hobbies. Not necessarily that most of mylotters are not thinkers.

Why is that you think? I personally think maybe just maybe a lot of us just really wants to post and earn some cents. Well I do. Well not exactly. Lol. Responding to a discussion asking about your favorite color is a lot easier than the one which asks about what a president should do to improve his country. Although both questions are answerable, but answering a question about your favorite color requires less thinking. I myself prefers discussions in which I instantly have answers and those one's that I have interests of.
