Anyone else afraid of dentists and just deal with dental problems?

That's me, a big scared baby when it comes to dentist. Well cost does not help either but no bigger reason then being too afraid to go.
How afraid am I?? Well a year ago after suffering with a bad tooth for too long, instead of picking up the phone and making an appointment, I pulled the tooth myself. I was so proud of my strength and courage until later when I realized all of the tooth did not come out. So I have been dealing with a few issues from that.
I have two other teeth that are only half a tooth and a couple with pieces missing. I know I have probably suffered much more than I would have going to the dentist. I guess it is just easier for me to go through slow torture rather than planned torture.
Is there anyone else like me with this problem? If so, how do you deal with it?

Those needles they use to numb you are huge and painful. That is why I am all for knocking me out in the car on my way there. Nothing I need done will be simple so I think that is what is keeping me far away and dealing with my dental issues. Glad you are able to avoid them.

while I trust the dentist to know what he/she is doing I just wish they could make those drilling machines they use much quieter. The very sound of it has me at my wits end and to top it all you have no idea what it is doing inside your head. maybe sometimes to you need to a bit. Happy mylotting.

That is great that you trust dentists. I do try to but in all honesty the last one I saw, my daughter was seeing too and we both ended up with the same gum infection. So it added to the fear and lack of trust.
Thanks for responding and may you always have a healthy smile.

I hate the dentist.I do not like them
They want you to allow them to disconnect bones (teeth) that are in your head using small saws, drills and whater ever other Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde instuments they use on you.
Then they want to stick a needle with pain \/numbing medication so close to your brain.
All that comotion near my brain is to much.
What if the dentist slipped. That is a chance I am not Willing to Take.

Dentists! I hate them as a general rule! I guess it is a necessity though otherwise when you reach old age you will be able to suck your nose with your lower lip!! The thing I really don't like about dentists is that nasty drill that they use! I heard on the news that they were thinking of coming up with some new technology whereby the infamous drill could be scrapped! Why hasn't that technology come out yet? I think it was some kind of lazer that would eventually replace the drill. No more drilling and no more pain! I've got to say though, you were very brave in carrying out your own treatment in that way! I would never be able to do something like that. Even though I don't like dentists much, I really am grateful that they are there! I would much rather experience half hour our pain that suffer constant pain with a bad tooth. Andrew

It sure you would help to eliminate the drill. Just the sound of it is horrifying.
If the pain got too out of control or I knew I had an infection, I would hesitantly go to the dentist. And I just know they hate it when a patient comes to them with so many problems including the reason the brought me there.
Thanks for responding. I give you credit for disliking them but being a man and going before suffering too much.
