Why We DO NOT Need Obama Election news and commentary on why Barack Obama DOES NOT deserves our vote. ABC News Exposes Palin Book Banning Inquiry ABC News does some actual reporting and exposes more about Sarah Palin's "rhetorical inquiries' about banning books at the local library. See the video below. http://weneedobama.blogspot.com/2008/09/abc-news-exposes-palin-book-banning.html Another Media Lie shot in the foot!Thursday, September 11, 2008. This new accusation against Palin has been proved to be lie. Snopes very clearly states that this Obama' new dig is a bare faced lie. http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/bannedbooks.asp When is Obama's campaign people and the media going to realise that making accusations that can be clearly proven to be outright lies does nothing IMO to enhance his appeal for President? Your comments on this latest piece of slander?

I wrote the article you linked to that called out Sarah Palin for making "rhetorical inquiries" about banning books, as revealed by the ABC News video I included in my post. You need to be more careful when you fly off the handle with a post like this and accuse someone like me of lying. If you actually read my article, you will note that I (and ABC News) NEVER accused Sarah Palin of ACTUALLY banning any books. As you can see with your own eyes from what I wrote and from the ABC News video I posted, Sarah Palin repeatedly asked Wasilla's librarian how the librarian would REACT to the idea of banning books. When Sarah Palin didn't get the answer she wanted (the librarian said would refuse to ban books if asked), she FIRED THE LIBRARIAN a month or so later. You do yourself and your friends here a disservice by distorting my writing (and the reporting of ABC News) in order to post a breathless attack on the supposed lies of Obama supporters. Some people out there are indeed under the misapprehension that Sarah Palin ACTUALLY banned books, but I (and ABC News) are not among that set. I hope you will update your original discussion post with a correction and an apology. KCG

Ok, now anyone want the facts? The list, of course, is an exaggeration but Palin did ask the librarian about the porcedure for banning books that did not adhere to her religious beliefs. The librarian, who has responded to a CNN inquiry into the incident, said that she told Palin that she would not cooperate with any attempt to remove books from the shelves of the library. In response, Palin attempted to fire her for not cooperationg. It was only in response to community outrage that Mary Ellen Emmons kept her job. I see no reason for the Anchorage Daily News to have made up the following news accounts: From the January 31, 1997 edition of Anchorage Daily News: Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin fired the city's police chief and the library director without warning Thursday, accusing them of not fully supporting her efforts to govern. Irl Stambaugh and Mary Ellen Emmons said letters signed by Palin were dropped on their desks Thursday afternoon telling them their jobs were over as of Feb. 13 and that they no longer needed to report to work. Emmons has been the city's library director for seven years. Stambaugh has headed the police department since it was created in 1993. Before that, he served 22 years with the Anchorage Police Department rising to the rank of captain before retiring. Community anger over Palin's attempt to fire the librarian was apparently intense, forcing Palin to reverse her decision: From the The Anchorage Daily News on February 1, 1997: City librarian Mary Ellen Emmons will stay, but Police Chief Irl Stambaugh is on his own, Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin announced Friday. The decision came one day after letters signed by Palin were dropped on Stambaugh's and Emmon's desks, telling them their jobs were over as of Feb. 13. Check out the Anchorage Daily News website yourselves if you still don't believe.

Spalladino you are just proving again to me that the media prints what it wants true or not. If you had read all of the snopes rebuttal you would have read the the question posed in fall, 1996 was hypothetical and entirely appropriate. A patron had asked the library to remove a title the year before and the mayor wanted to understand how such disputes were handled. It is so blatantly obvious that the media (newspapers) print stories confirming or denying such articles and gossip depending of who's side the owner of the newspaper supports.

Kennyrose thanks for posting these two links. I really had to laugh when it was said that Obama does not just have skeletons in his closet but has real live people there too! BTW I DO judge Obama by the company he keeps.

You have no clue what you are talking about, and Mr Obama did not make the list, you have no clue as to why they are on the list and he had nothing to do with it what so ever. Try to communicate more clearly and know what you are talking about before you attempt an opinion. This is a media issue. It is right wing conservatives and the Religious Right that wants these books banned for reaons which you will not understand and I do not agree with.

Honestly, I hate to say it but this sort of thing has become politics as usual. Each campaign season it gets worse. The really pathetic part during this election year, is the fact that Obama especially, and here lately McCain too, both preach change. How can it possibly be change in politics, Washington, or failed policies when they continue to play the same childish games during the campaign season. If they are not tearing into each other and making false accusations, they are telling the voters what ever will gain them votes and then changing their stories as necessary! When will politicians realize that this is exactly the sort of games that has gotten our great nation where it is today, and in such serious need of help and change - true change - not campaign rhetoric!!!!

Neither have I seen anyone actually accused of starting the accusation. Snopes refers to it as "from an e-mail and rumours that are swirling around". However it is kind of obvious that someone who is not happy with McCain's choice of VP started the ball rolling.

However, I never actually did see anything that flat out linked either campaign - Obama or McCain - to this rumor. Where is the connection, or is it simply assumed?

Please remember that there is an honest debate here with respect to whether Sarah Palin asked about banning books in the Wasilla public library. I agree, as noted above, that she did not in fact have any books banned -- as claimed by the false email that was debunked by the Snopes article that whiteheather linked to. However, ABC News and other media outlets have reported that while Sarah Palin was a city councilor and a mayor, she asked the town librarian what her reaction to having books banned would be. As ABC News reported, a month after the librarian said that she would not support banning books, Sarah Palin fired her.

Like I said I don't believe everything I read but when the words are coming right out of his mouth it's kind of hard to say he didn't say that. When I heard his plans, I didn't think of just me, my Hubby or my family...mostly I thought of my Niece and Nephew who are 13 and 11. I don't want them growing up in a terrorist world...where they have to be afraid to speak up, where they may be stoned or beheaded for breaking the laws...that's how things are done in alot of those countries we're fighting right now. I don't believe for a second that if we're left defenseless that they won't move right in and before you know it, take over. Afterall, most of those foreign countries support BO, b/c they know he's planning to leave the doors wide open for them to walk right in. I think everyone thinking of voting for BO should watch this video and then look at their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and ask themselves if they want them at the mercy of a President who plans to leave them defensesless and helpless. I want better for my Niece and Nephew...I want them to be able to grow up with the same freedoms I've had all my life. I know that McCain isn't perfect but he knows first hand what those ppl are capable of. He knows what they would do if given the chance...and he has no intention of giving them that chance. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I'll give you a really good reason...one that you should really think about. BO has stated that if elected he will disarm all our nuclear weapons, stop nuclear weapon development and make it illegal to produce the things needed to make the nuclear weapons. That will leave us totally defenseless. Now ask yourself this...if terrorists attacked us on 9/11 knowing we had the weapons to wipe them off the face the earth, what would stop them from simply taking over the US when we have no way to defend ourselves? At least McCain will keep us safe and not line us up for the slaughter. He has been a POW and knows what the enemies are capable of. If you don't believe this is BO's intention...here is a link to a video...OF HIM SPEAKING...I don't believe everything I read but when I see the words coming out of his mouth he can't deny it. Do you really want to chance the safety of your friends and family to someone who is going to take away our defenses and line us up for slaughter? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6UZaGan0CI&feature=related **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I write a blog on my own time and am not affiliated with the campaign in any way. You really need to think out your replies a bit more. My posts title included that ABC News "EXPOSES Palin Book Banning Inquiry". That is exactly what it did -- it exposed her INQUIRY into banning books in the Wasilla public libary. The article you linked to only debunked the false email that was circulating that claimed that Palin ACTUALLY banned books. As I said in my reply to you, I agree that she did not in fact have any books banned. You falsely equate the proven fact that she ASKED about banning books to the debunked claim that she actually had any books banned. I am sure you and most of your readers here would understand that when someone out there, such as yourself, accuses me of lying, it is perfectly justified to feel strongly about such a mischaracterization of what I wrote. I continue to hope that you will post a correction and include an apology for saying I was lying in my post. KCG

So who do you vote for anyhow? I guess there is a lot of people who are going to stay home this election. Sometimes I wish that the presidents would be allowed to stay for three terms. I think Obama is dangerous and McCain should have stuck up for traditional rights so he would not have Sarah Palin stand up for him. So it seems that both parties are wrong. I guess it is a case of not reading it through and only jumping to your own conclusions. Inquiring about the policy of banning books does not mean you want the library to ban books, it is just you want to know how it is done. Mind you I would have those books that are dangerous kept in the adult section and not in the elementary school section of the library.

Sadly I feel it is a choice of the lesser of two evils. However as I feel Obama is truly evil and a danger to this country I have no other choice than to vote for McCain. I had thought of not voting but if everyone thought that way then for sure Obama would win.

This adult cat fighting is one of the reasons I hate politics....and the worst part is one of these childish cat fighters is going to lead our country! Pretty sad if you ask me.

EXACTLY!! I wish our politicians would grow up and stop this fighting and name calling. It is time that our politics returns to the important things and becomes about the issues, and who is best for the job of President and Commander in Chief. I wonder if that will ever happen? Probably not.

sndcain, my comments regarding racism were directed towards whitefeather, a supporter of McCain, so you comment to me was way out of place. If you have read some of her posts you can find out for yourself that she is racists despite having a multi-racial grandchilds. My comment was not directed towards the issue that you have just brought up, it is not all about you. So get your facts straight about what you are talking about before you TRY to insult me, you are just bringing attention to your lack of understanding regarding the debate that is going on in the thread. Additionally, I am a white female and have never, ever been a racist and in my chosen career have been a proponent of anything that would possibly reek of discrimination.

What makes you think that ANYTHING, negative said about McCain and Palin, unless you hear it out of their mouths, comes from Obama or his camp? Have you heard of the MEDIA? Everything comes from the media. kennyrose said that "130 attorneys were sent from OBAMA to Alaska to dig dirt on Palin", kennyrose knows everything PFFFFT. I think the real count was 30 and don't you think that there is someone in the FBI that needed to check out miss no-name/know nothing? Would it have to have been someone from the Obama camp? I am sure all the Republicans cannot fathom that it would be possible that anyone one else would have the need to check out the potential Vice President of the country other than Obama. Obama is criticized for running such a polite campaign, isn't that strange that you think he is being a bully. It is the Republican's are running gutter politics as ususal. He is on target with the issues. It is McCain who said "this is a campaign on personalities, not on issues". That is because he has no issues, it is business or BUSHNESS, AS USUAL for McCain, he has nothing to say, because he will have nothing to do but rubber stamp what Bush has done, four more years of Bush, is what you will get. WE cannot tolerate four more years of Bush. Have you seen the tape of Palin asking "what is the daily responsibility of the Vice President?" How charming that she admits not having a clue. How about the one where she says "the war in Iraq is God's Will?" I have always said that Bush thinks he is God, however, he is not. Evidently Palin thinks he is too. The war was strictly Bush's will, wrong people for the wrong war, the Arabs hit the twin towers in NY so he started a war in Iraq. Make sense? Probably to some of you it does. I just saw a tape where people were asked basic questions and could not answer them. "Where did Kentucky Fried Chicken originate?" "what is the religion in Israel?"... no one knew or thought of the name of Kentucky, or the religion practiced in Israel. They thought that Mississippi was a country. It was horrific to see how stupid people are in this country. But now I understand why people are voting for McCain and Palin. Something I never understood before I saw that tape.

White, the McCain/Palin camp put Sarah on stage and lied to the American people, and they have never adimited it. She supported the bridge to nowhere, and took the money, and when congress attacked it, she never sent the money back to Washington. If she was so against this project (which the facts do not support) then why didn't she just write a check back to Washington for all of the money they received. Sarah Palin says that she is against earmarks, yet she has a long history of asking for earmarks, and spending them. She hated earmarks so much that she hired a lobbist as mayor, and received $24 million in earmarks while mayor. Last year under the Great reformer, Palin asked for and received $550 million in earmarks (What a great reformer she is), and this year she cut her spending back some, only asking for $200 million in earmarks (but she did ask for $150,000 in travel for her friends in the fishing industry, I bet that jet could have saved them money there) . The McCain/Palin camp has known this is a lie since she said it, and has never come out and said differently, so why do they keep on lying?

14 Sep 08
...so why do they keep on lying? Probably for the same reason Obama's camp keeps on lying. They are both playing a ridiculous game of lets see who can tell the biggest whopper instead of telling the American people in plain language (not beating around the bush) how they stand on issues that are important to us.
