I have used several different messengers,I used to use AOL instant messenger a lot and I also used Yahoo messenger a lot,but now I do not use them, because I have no need to,since I am with my fiance, and we stay busy, and I used them to talk to my friends, which now I used Myspace instant messenger to chat with my friends, because almost all my friends have a Myspace, and Myspace instant messenger is more convenient than the others,at least in my opinion.

Come on people, bring IRC into the mix! I don't need anything more from online chatting; video calls, "friendman167 is now typing you a message," etc. is all just bloat to me. Don't need anything more than an IRC server or two and good ol' irssi. :)
Really, it just works better for me. While I'll use Bitlbee from time-to-time to actually talk to people on MSN through my IRC client, I prefer the whole group chat community thing that IRC provides. That's just my preference.

MSN is my favorite messenger. It used to be AOL in high school, but then I made a new group of friends in university and more of them seem to use MSN. MSN is also more fun because you can download new emotions to use, while most of the others have standardized emotions. I have some that dance, that pout or cry. It makes it easier to show the person I'm talking to how I'm feeling. Plus, I'm in a long distance relationship with someone who uses MSN and it's very helpful in helping us keep in touch.
