What's your favorite kind of brownie?

I still have the recipe for brownies that I used to use when my kids were little. They were moist and chewy and delicious! Over the years I don't know if I lost my touch or if my taste changed. Or maybe not having the kids there clamoring to lick the bowl makes a difference. I don't like the brownies I make from scratch as well now as I like brownies from a mix. I've found I don't like the store brands, but now and then the Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines will be on sale for about the same price as store brand and I'll buy a couple of boxes if I can. I had bought two boxes of Betty Crocker and made one up. It called for 1/4 c water, 2/3 c oil and 2 eggs. They were extremely oily. I didn't remember them being that oily the last time I made them. Then before I used the other box, Duncan Hines went on sale and I bought a box of that. It called for 1/4 c water and 1/2 cup oil with 2 eggs. It was much better, so when I made the other box of Betty Crocker, I reduced the oil to 1/2 cup. Yum! Do you play around with mixes? Have you ever made an "adjustment" that was so bad you would never do it again? Ever made one you hoped you could remember for the next time?

I have a "Brownies in a Jar" recipe that is really good. So good that I don't buy mixes any more. These make great gifts! All the dry ingredients are layered in a quart jar and I attach instructions for mixing and baking. Of course if you are making the brownes right then you can skip the jar part and just dump it all in a mixing bowl. The recipe calls for chocolate chips and white chocolate chips, though I often make them with just the chocolate chips. I mix in chopped pecans or walnuts or leave them out(my daughters preference). With box mixes I follow the instructions for baking. Guess I'm kind of legalistic.

I found my recipe, called Sand Art Brownies, in the newspaper. Someone had a jar of the mix with no instructions and had requested help. Readers wrote in with their recipes.

OH I've seen that recipe somewhere many years ago, but I don't know what I did with it. Heck, I don't even remember where I saw it.

No I don't really play around with mixes much. Whenever I make brownies thought the mix is always too dry so I end up putting a little more water in the mixture, and it always turns out good. I love to have brownies when they are hot with some vanilla ice cream...yum! I have never made brownies from scratch......just from boxes that you buy. I also like brownies that have nuts in them, they are pretty good. Whenever we have brownies they don't last very long at all.

When my two youngest kids were the only ones at home (they're 12 years apart) one of them would act like they were taking the brownie pan when I took it out of the oven and say "thanks Mom! Where's yours?"

I like turtle brownies or peanut butter. Brownies made from scratch are also really good. I like almost any brownie really. When it comes to brownies I like them to be moist and with nuts. I really love rownies with nuts. They are my favorite by far. So chocolately so good.

I had to laugh when i read this. I ALWAYS tinker with recipes, my husband says he had better enjoy whatever i have fixed if it turns out really good because i will never be able to make it the same way again, since i never write whatever i manipulated to get it that way down! I love playing in the kitchen be it with a box mix or a from scratch recipe. But my favorite brownies are the ones my daughter makes!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that does this. Usually my "tinkering" is due to not having the ingredients called for, so I never make anything the same way twice.

I love choco fudge brownies especially if it is chewy and fudgey. We don't bake brownies but we tried to use a mix once but I can't remember it's brand anymore. I love brownies.

Yeah! If it's not chewy and fudgey it's just not a brownie!

Ooooooh! Brownies! I love the ones that are just a little crunchy on the outside and moist, gooey and chewy under that. I like them a day or so after they have been made. They are perfect after a couple of days. I do the same as you, I use less oil in mine. I don't like it when I finish one, look at my fingers and there is oily residue on them. I hardly ever prepare things the way suggested. I don't like the taste of this thing, I am going to leave it out and add this instead. I kind of cook like my Mama!

Brownies used to be my favorite dessert and because of that I have not allowed myself to take even one bite of them in more than two years. But when I did eat them I liked just about every kind. I like the edges the best. I did make adjustments to mine including adding Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to the top of them once baked. I also added peanut butter to the mix itself. That was delicious.

A couple of weeks ago at a conference, our dessert was a really rich chocolate brownie, with chocolate sauce on it, and marshmallows. That thing was so good, and it would be awsome if we had the recipe. Nothing better than a chocolate brownie with marshmallows on it. the only thing missing was a cup of coffee. LOL The conference was run by a group of Mormons, and they don't drink coffee. LOL

Brownies was not my favorite before until I have tried my uncle chef's brownie recipe hehe. I do not remember the exact recipe but I remember the taste was very creamy because it was rich in butter. I love it so much. Every time I try to bake brownies I usually burn it lol. Right now my favorite brownie is white chocolate brownie from moxies. I will try to make it on my own but I really love the recipe there. They also serve it with ice cream.
