We are definitely not getting what they did down south. We are getting very high winds and it is causing alot of problems. We are not getting storms, but the wind is up to 80 mph. They are telling everyone to get inside and stay off the roads. We are being careful and staying home.

I take it you live in ohio . Thats where I am and we had that storm it was awfull, we just got our power back about an hour ago.The winds were gusting to sometimes 70 miles an hour, we went out this morning to see a mess in many places of the neighborhood. We are in the waldo-delware- marion area, i did hear that power may be out in many areas for a week.I am so glad we got ours back after 24 hours. hope things are ok where you are.

We are just north of you. I am glad we are not in the shape Columbus is in. I am glad that you have your power back. I guess we were really lucky to get ours back on in just hours and that we are not having to fight for gas and ice. I hope they get relief soon, before people start getting impatient and desperate, and start doing things to harm other people.

Good idea to listen and stay home. We only have 40 mph winds here, and that was still enough to knock out a lot of power lines (not a single working traffic light in my city, but at least all the residences & businesses seem to have power) and many a tree. We had a large branch go through the roof of our garage (again....this happened two years ago, too) from the wind, and a few of my neighbors are semi-trapped due to large trees across their driveways. Some of the neighboring cities are worse with schools & roads closed. Is your son home again (post surgery)? Hopefully he's able to be there with you where he'll feel safe.

Sorry to hear about your roof. At least no one was hurt. We go Thursday for surgery. At least if they don't call and cancel.

Wow, that is quite a breeze. I am glad that you are playing smart and not trying to be a cool fool who takes chances with bad weather. WHen I was pregnant, a hurricane came in and they said anyone that wanted to could go home, well, I was in a solid, new brick building and decided to stay there. 3 hours later the sun was shining and I left work. But I could not get home for another day. The 7 miles I drove into work, the road had over 30 trees down. They came down about the time our employer sent us home. Off the road is safer.

Wow, I am glad that you did not try to go home. I know of one truck that was smashed by a big tree while driving down the road. Even though we have a tree out front, we just decided it was better to stay here.

I hope your power stays on. We got hit by Hanna and had alot of rain. It was windy too but nothing major. My area didnt have any trees down. I'd be freaking if the wind was 80 mph around here it would probably knock the big trees down we have around here.

It did go off for about 6 hours. It went off for the 2nd time right after I made the discussion. I am wondering if there is enough damage done to close schools tomorrow. There is sure alot of trees and lines down.

You cerainly are among the smart ones that stay home when this crappy whether hits. I stay home as well.. no sense in putting myself and others in danger. I think some peoples' morbid curiosity gets the best of them and they can't help themselves. I hope all is still well and that you had no damge from the remnats of this powerful storm.

I feel for you! We had the high winds from Ike up here by Lake Erie in Ohio. I don't know how fast the winds got up to, but it was really something like I've never seen! It knocked out power in the areas East of Cleveland. We had our power out for almost 2 days. I know that's not a real long time, but it's long enough to lose all the food in the fridge and the big chest freezer! I'm thankful they got it fixed fast, they had originally told our area it'd be probably 5 days until they could get us power back. The winds were so bad that it knocked down trees all over the place. My huge maple tree in the front lost many limbs. One came crashing down on the mailbox, and when it came down it tamped the pole for the paper box to almost a foot off the ground. (The paper box used to be just as tall as the mailbox.) Thank heavens there were no cars going by at the time it fell or they would have most definitely been crushed! The town next to us still doesn't have power, and a lot of the roads are still closed. Mercy! We hardly ever get this bad a backlash from the storms from the South. I feel really bad for those who are getting/ or got, the full force of this devastating storm!

I'm not far from you. I think they really had gotten in a bind letting part of our electric people go down south to help. They just weren't expecting that.

We had winds and rain here in Oklahoma, but nothing severe. Lowell and Ike were both on top of Oklahoma - Lowell in the west and Ike in East. My heart goes out to the people in TX and LA - they have alot of damage and cleaning up to do.

Hi! I'm so sorry to be so late in responding to your discussion!! I've got four pages of discussions that I've saved and plan on getting back to when ever I had the time or mentality to do so. But I haven't forgotten you or deleted your discussion!! Oh no way!! How are things with you now? I pray you didn't get much damage or rather none at all...

I'm just now back, as my electric was out. I heard there was a wind advisory but thought well, big deal, a little wind! If it had told me how strong they would be, I'd have stayed home and gotten a jump on being without power for 4 days! I'm glad you here and none the worse for it!
