Why we are very emotional.....

Why we're very emotional when it comes to our love ones? we feel angry or mad if somebody hurt our love ones, we're affected to every problems that he/she have especially the parents, when their kids is having trouble or hurting the parents is the first one who will react... As a mother i admit i am the first one who will react and get hurt more hen my when it comes to my kids... Is it normal thing to us as a person? why do we feel this way??
