I use Avast! Home edition. It's pretty good because it's free and it allows you to run boot-time scans. This means you can schedule a scan even before your operating system starts up. THis allows the antivirus to scan system files that are usually in use when your operating system is already booted. The disadvantage is at start up when you turn on your PC, your system slows down a bit.

I use AVG too (anti-virus). In adition I use ZoneAlarm (firewall) and AdAware. They're all free and can often pick up on some things that paid anti-virus programmes don't pick up.
