Do you think your husband likes your cooking?

When we were first married, I was basically a beginning cook. My husband was so polite though. Even now he says that I have only made about 1 or 2 dishes that he actually did not like. I think he's being sweet about those early years and maybe a little untruthful. Now I'm a pretty good cook. And he raves about my cooking all the time. But.... I know that this is not the case for everyone. I know there must be people who have the skills of Deborah Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond) and just find that cooking is not their thing. Not only that, their husbands let them know it too (hopefully with a lot of humor mixed in) What about your husband? Does he like what you cook? What's his favorite? or is he telling you that you should take lessons?haha

I love new stuff too. I have a ton of cookbooks (i collect) and I am always experimenting with things from those. I've also gotten to the point after 18 years that I can sense how things can be just thrown together even without a recipe. It helps when I'm getting low on supplies. Thank so much!

Hands up im a basic cook here too,and im not even going t osay that I enjoy cooking eithr, when we first got together I didnt really know what my partner liked to eat, first big,no major mistake was the porridge,I made a big pan of prridge ,and put it on the plates surrounded with a moat of creamy milk, and guess what,he didnt like porridge, lol so that was the first mistake, but no there were many after that and eventually I got the hang of it,and learned to cook what he liked to eat.But then the family come along and they all like different things to eat,one wants pizza, one wants bolognese, the other wants fish and chips,so where do you begin, its tuff cooking for a family .

It is tough cooking for a family. I am fortunate that my son and my husband will eat most things that I cook. My daughter on the other hand likes to be picky. Often I will cook something she liked at one time and then she will say that she doesn't like it. She's 10 and I think it's cool to not like most things at that age. Oh well, sometimes she ends up with Peanut Butter while the rest of us eat what I prepared.

I also could not cook that well in the beginning of our marriage. But at least I could cook. But I was not contented with that. I wanted to please my family so I made a lot of researches and experimentations. I also asked my mom and my older sister to teach me some cooking techniques. Now after 23 years of marriage, I would say that my hubby is very satisfied with my cooking. Ask him who is the best cook in the world and he would say "My wife of course!"

hello rocketj1, When I first got married,I didn't know how to cook American food. The only feeeewwww things that I cooked was about one or two Spanish dishes. Needless to say, I had to learn to cook. My husband knew how to cook because he had to cook for his parents every evening meal, Mon thru Friday. He had the family meal on the table when his parents came home from work. I tried my hand and I hate to admit it, I burned water!! The pot had a hole in the bottom.(lol). Now I can say that my husband loves my cooking because I can come up with a very fantastic meal, as my husband comments, every day. I cook three meals a day. With four kids and not much money, I learned to use lots of herbs and spices, and how to cook many different foods, to make a very beautiful, healthy, and fulfilling meal to service. Lets say that my husband and kids eat everything I put in front of them. I am not trying to brag. I can tell you it took a lot of work, determination and love. At first I had lots of boo boos, and still make mistakes but all in all he enjoys eating after 46 yrs.

Hi again rocketj1, I haven't been on mylot in a long time. Thank you for the best response. Just a up to date note on my cooking. I now have to learn how to cook more healthier. We just learned we are both diabetics. Try that one for size. I'm learning thought, as usual. We are both now cooking together for each other. All I know is that God is great and good. And this too will pass. Thanks alot for your kind words. God bless you.

My husband is diabetic also. I can cook most anything for him. He just has to mostly watch his carbohydrate count. I generally do not fry things in oil. I generally use the stovetop or oven for my cooking, so I did not really have to change that much. He of course can only have sweets made with real sweeteners occasionally. If his glucometer shows a low enough number, he may sometimes eat a little treat like that. But He has found that if he eats any sugary things, He gets a taste for it and it becomes hard to resist. So he basically sticks with things sweetened with splenda or another sugar free sweetener. I don't know if Splenda is available in your area, but you can bake with it just like sugar. It measures out the same way. He likes it. I'm not a fan of it. Thanks for your great response

My husband likes my cooking, but he has never really seen to what extent I am able to cook. He is a very picky eater and eats only a very limited variety of meals. He won't even try anything new. Sometimes, I will make something different for the kids and make him fend for himself. He also does his fair share of cooking in our house.

my husband isn't picky and eats everything i make. he has it things he doesn't want to eat, but since i made it he'll eat it anyway. if its edible, he'll eat it. his favorite is steak of course, just fried or on the grill is fine for him. i think i'm a decent cook. i mostly cook the same things over and over again because we don't have much. my husband is fine with chicken every day. me on the other hand, i need to spice it up once in a while so i don't get bored myself. i always ask him if its good or not, he always says its good, eats everything on the plate unless i give him vegetables. thats the only thing he gets mad about, but the doctor said we should eat more so when i have the veggies, he's getting it!

I enjoy cooking and my husband has always been fastidious where food is concerned. If my cooking is not good, he will very frankly tell me its bad, grumble and get up. So, you are lucky in your husband. I too am a good cook but there are times when I do not make good food. Do you always turn up with excellent food ?

No, in fact the pork chops I made on Sunday were very dry. I made them in the oven the same way I've made them many times before and they were really dry. They were a pretty good cut of meat too. Other times, especially if I'm in a hurry, I will burn things. I which case, I will make a few more side dishes to make up for the ruined main course. Even then, my sweet husband has always been supportive. I guess that's just his personality.

Vermicelli Fishball Vege Soup - This is a homecook vermicelli noodle soup
Hi I was same like you when I first got married, I was also a beginning cook. Bu thank God my husband is a simple eater. he is not picky or choosey but he required a main meal of meat dish for lunch everytime. The rest like vege, eggs and soup is not that important. I learnt to cook by asking my own mum the ingredients and other stuff and she gave me tips, I also did check out the internet on recipes and then modify the recipes because I am from an Asian country, and I also mix and cook my own dishes. Just using common sense and creativity. My husband does not complain or rave about my cooking but he does give comments like need to add more salt, less salt or some ingriedients is missing in this dish.....that's fine with me because it helps me to improve. And now that its been two years, my vocab for cooking more dishes has increased. My husband loves to eat at home rather than outside. So I cook or if we are both very busy then we just buy take away and then eat at home.

WeiWei Dog - My dog looks like an otter/ beaver here
Yeah its my dog but she passed away on Feb 14 this year due to some liver illness. We still miss her very very much as she is a very obedient and lovable dog. Does not simply bark unless there s a need to like barking at strangers. Other than that you wouldn't even know there's a dog in my apartment. Here's another pic for you

I was raised by an Irish mother and an Italian father, so my sisters and I all learned to cook at a very early age. By the time I got married, the kitchen had become my place to play and creating amazing meals (often out of almost nothing, as a military budget can be tight) was easy for me. The trick is to learn the basics first and then build upon them...it's a lot like putting together puzzles or building a model or sewing. Being a Tupperware consultant has given me a new view on cooking as well. I've been able to learn some great microwave-cooking techniques and bulk-cooking which really saves me time later. :) Jennifer www.mytupperware.com/jfletcher

Have you ever tried the once-a-month cooking concept? I have not, but I always wanted to give it a try. I guess I would need to buy lots of tupperware for the freezer then, wouldn't I?lol Thanks:)
16 Sep 08
I have tried the once-a-month but it wasn't feasible for us, partly because we just don't have the freezer space and partly because my family is really picky. I've found it works best for us if I only do two weeks in advance. As for the Tupperware, they have a line of products that wouldn't require too much of a purchase but would serve the situation very well. ;-)

LOL! well, i do not do the cooking, my hubby does. he enjoys cooking and is very good at it, so i let him! i am definitely lucky in this area. but he really is a very good cook- always likes to try new things and improve on the old. cooking for me is not easy b/c i am pretty picky, and he never complains. but i do all the baking, and he raves about that, and i know he is telling the truth. lol- not because i think i am all that, just because i know he would not say it if he didn't mean it. it's nice because when we are invited to a party or something and we have to bring a dish, he will bring something like pepperoni bread or buffalo wing dip or stuffed peppers or whatever, and if it is dessert that someone wants then i bring that! it works out well. :)

You don't have to tell your husband this, but Rachael Ray says that good baking is actually harder than cooking. She doesn't bake. She says that you have to be so much more exact and precise with baking. If you aren't, then major things can go wrong. Cooking can often (not always) be more thrown together. You're a lucky gal! Thanks:)

You are very lucky to have a loving husband. I think we are in the same shoe. My husband is exactly like yours. When we first got married, I am not a good cook. I know to cook all the basic dishes, but because I seldom cook I tend to forget and get confused on the ingredients. There are many times when I tried to cook the same dish but with different presentation, because I was experimenting it in order to get the best taste and appearance. My husband never complained. Not even once he said my cooking is bad. His favorite is fried chicken coated with fried onion and chili. Although I know I am not the best cook in the world, I feel my self confidence go very high when it comes to cooking because I know my husband likes my cooking very much. Whatever I put onto the table, he would praise it like it is very delicious. I think it is really delicious because when I eat it myself, it is delicious. But I don't think I am as good as Martha Stewart or something. Anyway, because my husband always praise my cooking and I have a high confidence in cooking, I always cook for my parents when they want to invite friends or relatives at their home. This is because they asked me to cook for them. I never offered to cook for them, because I am afraid that my cooking is not as good as they expected. But they still want me to cook for them, because they said my cooking is delicious. I tell them what to buy and they help me preparing the food, but I am the one responsible in making the choice for how much quantity should be cooked, how much ingredients in a dish, etc. And my cooking turned out to be delicious. My relatives like my cooking and they said I should open a restaurant. Actually I have a dream to open a restaurant. It is only that I do not have the support of anybody to help me in the operation. My husband only knows to praise my cooking, but he has his own job and couldn't help me if I open a restaurant. And he is not willing to quit his job for it. So what I have to do now is be patient and wait for the right moment. I still have hope that I am going to open a restaurant soon.

Nope he don't like it and he tells me in no uncertain terms and in front of anyone who happens to be there that what I have cooked is crap. He is best friends with the garbage disposal and the trash can - so i my food if in his hands. I have however, been told many times by many people that I am a good cook. Especially tho, my baking is better than my cooking - they REALLY love my baking!

I think he really does enjoy my cooking. He has favorites and such that I make for him. Alot of times I will ask him what he feel liks for dinner because 99% of the time it really doesn't matter to me what we have so I will let him pick what he's in the mood for. His favorite I think changes alot. lol. But currently it's the extra simple meal of BBQ Hamburger patties on top of garlic butter rice covered with brown gravy. I don't know why because it's the least complex simple meal I make but I'm not complaining! LOL.
