Success in life comes from taking risks or careful planning?

I think it's good to plan and work hard and know what you want, but not at the expense of overlooking unexpected opportunities. Sometimes, I've gotten so focused on a plan or a goal that I've overlooked a great opportunity I wasn't planning for. I don't think it can be explained entirely, but I think it's a combination of the two.

Both in balance and moderation. Even the most careful planning can turn into a huge letdown. Numbers and statistics don't account for everything. Risk however is entirely make or break. There's a fine line between taking a risk and making a stupid decision. both need to complement each other or you'll find yourself in a gutter rather than a palace.
