I'm afraid I think you've all been hoodwinked by the corporates who sell you their bottled water.
There is nothing at all wrong with tap water. In both North America and Europe at least there are very stringent requirements on water cleanliness and purification. It might taste a bit bland, but it's not poisonous and will not damage your health.
Both boiling tap water and buying bottled water are a pointless waste of energy and money.

And speak for yourself Isis. Here where I live the water leaves a red ring around the sinks, toilets, and tubs. I'd never drink that!!!!

And we are being hoodwinked into buying bottled water which is no safer. Anyone catch that report on Aquafina not too long ago? Apparently they are bottling tap water and duping us into paying for it!!!!!

I never drink from the tap for the very same reason. Then recently read a book that was talking about the dangers of bottled water. The machines that are used to process the water are cleaned with a solution called benzene. This stuff gets in the water we drink and is dangerous to our health. Then the fact that it is standing (stagnant) water furthers increases the risks of drinking the water.
Then they are adding fluoride to the tap water supposedly to purify it and this stuff is poisonous as well. In fact it is a main ingredient in rat poison and we are made to consume small dosages of this stuff in our water supply! There is more than enough fluoride in toothpaste to kill a man why do we need anymore in our water supply?

Fluoride isn't added to water to purify it. It is added because it has health benefits in that it helps to make your teeth resistant to cavities.
In my opinion it is one of the greatest public health policies ever conceived.
Of course it is important that the amount of fluoride added to tap water is carefully maintained and monitored to prevent excessive quantities which would indeed be poisonous.

There is more than enough fluoride in toothpaste to handle that matter! Why is in in the water supply we are supposed to drink? If you eat toothpaste it is suggested you contact Poison Control. So how is adding a poisonous substance to our water helping at all?

If I drink this water for a lifetime would that not be an excessive amount?

I don't drink water from tap. I will usually boil the water before drinking it. Nowadays there so many pollution in this world. Drinking from tap not safe anymore. There are too many chlorine and bacteria inside the water. The water maybe recycle water from waste. Rivers are dirty and polluted. If don't buy purified water, than at less must boil the water.

If the earth is two thirds water why are we recycling waste?

Because ninety-something percent of that 2/3s is full of salt. To desalinate it is a very expensive and energy-intensive process. At the moment demand for water is not so great that this is economically viable in many places.

ALL the water in the world is recycled from waste! Including bottled water. It doesn't make it any less clean just because it once went through a million people, a few cows, and the odd dinosaur.
And chlorine kills bacteria. I don't see how you can complain of both too many bacteria AND too much chlorine.

Hello apples99
I don't actually drink water direct from the tap but yes I do still drink tap water. I live in the South West of England and the water here is ok, it tastes really ok though I am not sure if it is 100% clean I dare say not but it doesn't seem to cause me any problems or my kids! For me to buy bottled water would be too expensive.

I'm still drinking from my tap.I do agree that nowadays the water supply is not that clean, polluted and full of chlorine.I've installed an external filter outside my garden to remove the bigger particle and mud. This is a coarse filter and would not reduce the pressure going into my house.I do not boil my water anymore nor buy water because over here we do not have an efficient water dispensing machine. Moreover it is more expensive if we were to buy mineral water from store. We are creating more rubbish to the environment as the plastic bottle waste is not biodegradable.Instead i use two internal filter, one to filter fine particles and prolonging the shelve life of the other filter with UV light to kill bacteria.Today I can confidently drink water straight from my tap and this save a lot on my gas bill and time.As for the filter cost,i think this is just a small fraction of the overall cost.Hope what i'm practising now give you an idea what can be done.Have a nice day :)

Definitely not. Especially not here in the Philippines. Last year, my dad's friends stayed at a hotel here and boiled some water from the tap for some morning coffee. Majority of them got sick and had to go to the hospital. Bad experience for them. I don't drink from the tap because I have no idea where that water comes from.

You are right nowadays you can't really sure whether or not the tap water is still clean. When I was a kid we would get water from the tap but boil it first before we drink it. Now, like you we also buy water just to make sure that we are all healthy.
