Have you ever served in the military or have someone who has?

My hubby was in the Air Force when we first got married. It was tough, he was gone for nine months, but he didn't go overseas, so it wasn't so bad. Just hard to be apart like that and have to handle everything myself, especially since we had a baby.

I never served, but my dad did for 20+ years in the Air Force. My nephew too, is in the Army for a few years now. Both of my boys want to go into the military once they graduate from high school. (My older boy wants to join the Air Force in June or July.)

I have been there for two days, and it was complete waste of time.
Especially here in Europe, military is not well planned, they have a lack of organization and especially disrespect for people.
But this is just based on my experience.

I served for 15 years in the British Army and loved every minute of it. If you can take people shouting at you during basic training, the the rest of your service is a breeze.

My father was in Palestine in the First War. Although he saw no action, I think it was his experiences then that made him a lifelong pacifist. In the Second War (during which I was born) he did fire watching duties. I missed being called up for National Service by 3 months (for which I was heartily glad!).
