Do you even care.? I often wander when people ask how are you, is it just conversation, or do they care? I am really sick right now.[em]cry[/me] Sore throat, congested chest, cough, and I can hardly talk. If you ask how I am it would be hard to lie right now. I can't talk to well. So I say sick. Most people, OH . You Can tell they don't really care. When you ask 'How are you'. Do you want to know, or is it conversation?

When I ask someone how they are doing, I really do want to know how things are going for them. But I think it is very easy to get into the "fine, fine" syndrome. When someone asks us this question, we simply answer with "fine, fine" rather than telling them the truth. It is an easy way to not get into a full conversation with a person.

Your right there too. I guess if you don't want someone to know, you'll just say fine. Good point.

Awww poor lil walk. Have you got some panadol, lemon juice with garlic and honey and a warm blanky? I would give you a massage and tuck you in if I could. Don't you hate it when someone says "How 're ya going?" and you tell them and you get a blank look. I think people don't really mean it. It's more of a greeting here than a question. If they say "How are you feeling?" that's permission to tell the truth...otherwise you're supposed to say "fine" or "good thanks" or "great!...You?" Feel better soon...ok?

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well at the time of this posting. It is true that most of the people who will ask this question are just asking it, and not really matter how a person is really feeling. I work with someone who is like this who always asks and never really has much to say if you respond with anything other than OK, or not bad, etc. Sometimes I think that person might be asking just to hear their own voice. Right now, I am feeling stressed, and trying to keep everything together in my life so it does not cause other problems as well. I have been where you are at twice this yr. with a sore throat, cold, etc. and it is not Fun. Even ended up missing a lot of work once from it as well. I hope this finds you feeling more yourself as well.

It has been a week, Now I am feeling some better. . I still have a lot of sinuses, I wish I could get over that and I would feel much better. I think I'm always the one at work that remembers when someone is sick and goes back to check to see if they are okay. I am concerned when I ask, or I don't ask.

i will admit that asking how someone is a automatic response to a hello. i work in the healthcare field so i normally ask a way to be nice but i don't really care. i don't normally ask how my friends are because we're friends and if they need to talk they just talk. i mean you are right no one really wants to know how you are anymore.

Thanks for being honest. I don't think many people do care how you are. I you told them how you really were they would be shocked.

In some cases,it is really just a form of conversation, but it indicate people's politeness, though sometimes they don't care at all.To us ,it is also a way to show our kindness towards others. IF we don't say it ,or just say nothing when we meet, then that situation will be a little embarrassing,I think. So maybe that is a way to start a conversation between us.

Good point. Most of the time when I see someone I know, I just say, 'hey whats up.' That give an open conversation for the person to say anything they want.

Whenever people ask you, "How are you doing?", they really do not care. They are just asking it for the sake of asking. The right answer to say to most people is "okay" or "I am well". If it is a doctor, you are to be honest about how you are doing of course, but around anyone else, most people just do not want to hear it.

I agree, most people want to hear a lie. If you tell them there all of a sudden in a hurry. Your waisting there time.

Hi walk, I am sorry to hear about your situation just take your pills for that and I am sure you will feel better sooN! ANyway, I am frustrated also when I am asked and then when I answered them the real feelings I have, it seems that they are no longer interested to listen, why bother? ANyway, when I asked "how are you" I mean it and I will be very willing to follow up and listen to the answer and when I have no time to talk too, I will just say hello!

I hate being sick and I know how you feel. I do hope that you feel better soon. Drink some warm tea with a dash of honey, then take a warm bath and relax. I do say "how are you doing?" all the time, I guess it's just one of those things that come out automatically. I suppose it depends on who the person is if I really care about how they are doing or not. I know that sounds bad, but for the most I really do mean it and am interested in how people around me are. Feel better soon!

Hi my bestest friend! I really care! I'm sorry that you don't feel well! Actually, I have been sick too! But now it's in my tummy. It started out like yours but never came fully out and then went into a stomach thing. All I know is that I've been sick since Saturday and I cut a shopping trip short so I know that I am sick! When I ask someone "how are you?" I mean it. If they tell me that they aren't feeling well, I am genuinely concerned. I wouldn't ask someone if I didn't care. Oh, just looked at your new pic, nice-don't look sick! Wasn't there a few minutes ago. Now stop that, you're freaking me out. Well, get better quick! Me, gotta run back to el bano!

Wander why we want every one to see us as the perfect person. Even though we're not. But If I am really sick I want every one to know. I want to be taken care of.

When i ask how my friend been doing i really mean it. Not just for conversation. Its sad to hear that the people over you there doesn't care when they ask how are you doing. Do rest yourself and drink more water so that you can recover from the sick soon and i hope you doing fine over there. Have a nice day ahead. Cheers

I am not saying that friends don't care when they ask. I'm talk about acquiesces. Fellow workers, and someone you haven't seen in a while. Thanks for wishing me well. I seem to be getting better. Its just slow.

When I saw your topic, I can't help but respond to it. Since yesterday, I feel a little chest pain near my heart. I am a little scared because this was the first time I felt this pain. I also feel dizzy, I feel it every time I stand for about two minutes. I am afraid to go to the doctor because I'm afraid to know the findings. I am also afraid of spending too much if the doctor founds out that there is something wrong with me.

HELLO, GO TO THE DOCTOR. YOU DON'T NEED ANY ONE TO TELL YOU THIS. GO GO GO GO GO GO! I AM SERIOUS. ! MY mom had the same thing. She went to the doctor. She had a heart blockage. They put a stint in her artery, and she went home. Same day prosegur. Better than open heart surgery. GO GO GO

It depends! If I kind of start a conversation with a stanger. How are u is just show my regards or something. It is a habit, I guess! In some other country, people will ask "do u have dinner instead" U may get weird to hear that. Why people bother asking your meal? It is another habit! I hope everything will be fine!

you know its sometimes just the jist of conversation but really they just want to get into your buisness your personal life , and its really anyoing and if you dont place input into the conversatino they act as if your disrepecting them by not giving much up on your current situation , like why do you need to know !?! lol its not ur right to know what im doing day by day lol ....

In a case like that I'll just say fine, or good and walk on. And not give them nothing more. I'm not in to telling people all about my life.I've not even shared a lot here.

I'm glad that that you care when you ask. And you right, A lot of time when people ask it is just a question for conversation. Thanks for your time.

It's conversation. I am very very rarely the slightest bit interested in how somebody is, and I get very distressed if ever anyone stops and begins to tell me exactly how they are...
