Do you have weeds that are actually wild flowers in the wrong place? What do you do with them? Cut them down and make a bouquet? Uproot them and throw them away? Dig them up and plant them in your flower garden? Or maybe a butterfly garden? If they're edible, do you eat your wild flowers or flowers that the seeds may have been dropped by birds in your garden? One year we had a sunflower started very far away from our sunflowers really late in the season, I'm sure a seed fell from a bird's beak. So what are you doing with your wayward wild flowers?

Last year when we moved into our apartment there were 3 oversized, and uncut shrubs that we were dealing with. I could not stand them being there and clearly blocking the view of our home and it entirety. So in Spring I went out and started to cut them and try to make them look as good as possible. There was no getting around these gigantic bushes. So i realized they had to go. So i went out one day with a pair of hedgeclippers, and lol wire clippers, and went to work. I finally got it all the way down to the root, and let me tell you, I was scratched from head to toe lol. So finally my husband had a friend who had a truck and he took a chain hooked to his truck and to the schrub and pulled the rest of it out of the ground. I have never seen roots that long in my life! Anyway I went to tilling and planting, then watering. I'll be durned if the scrubs didn't cause tons of weeds to grow there now lol. So before long I didn't know what was flowers and what was weeds, so I let them all grow and picked out the sticker bushes. Low and behold It started getting really bad and weedy out there so i ended up taking everything out expect for 3 sunflowers in the back and one rose in the front. So now i know which ones are flowers and which ones are weeds lol. Great discussion.

That's really a lot of work you went through. If the roots were going to undermine your home, they sound like they might have, good to get them out of there. I hope you're able to get more managable flowers soon. Thanks for your response and take care

Wildflower - This is one of the flowers growing beside the road. Someone seems to have planted a whole field of wildflowers and just let them grow.
I let lots of things just grow around here. If I did not, I would miss out on some real beauties. I got a tube of wildflower seeds on clearance one year at Wal Mart, then forgot it. I think I will plant them, maybe even this fall so that they can lay there and get ready to grow next spring. Someone here evidently did that in a vacant lot near a busy intersection. They had lots of bachelor buttons and cosmos that I know for sure, as I got my hubby to stop and I took some pictures, close ups of some of the flowers. I will post one, for fun.

Yes, that is a Cosmos. My dad was given a wildflower packet and got them, and Mexican Sunflowers, and Shasta Daisies and Black-eyed Susans, among others.

That's a pretty wild flower picture, is that a cosmos? Those wild flower seed packets are neat, aren't they? One year about all people sold at the farmer's market was wild flowers, it was so dark and dreay all summer that that is all people were in the mood for. Thanks and take care.

I know all of those except Mexican Sunflowers. How are they different from regular sunflowers?

I used to have wild asters before I moved. I let them grow, sometimes bringing in a bouquet for the dining room table. I love wildflowers and never destroy any of them.

When wild flowers come I sometimes cut and put them in a vase. Some are very pretty as dry flowers.I cut them and hang them upside down and when they dry I put them in dry flower arrangement.Actually these wild look very good.If there are lots of seedlings I try and arrange them in a bed.

That's a terrific way to dry them. Sounds like you have fun doing flower arranging with them. Take care. Susan

Cool, she was my first teacher and she actually ate 90+ percent gatherer (vegetarian or vegan style, I think it was vegan. But her recipes come from people all over so they include dairy and honey, she gives different people credit, too).

Juiced them? Wow! I've heard of people roasting them for coffee (did that one year, wasn't crazy about them), but haven't juiced them. Interesting, how did you do that? How did you eat them? I used pancake batter on the flowers and frittered them. I also put the flower petals in stuff I was baking, makes cool yellow lines sporatically throughout. I made dandelion jelly, but left it on so long it became cough syrup. This is interesting. I like wild food adventures. Thanks and take care.

I am sure we have many weeds out in our jungle. My husband digs some of them up and moves them to other areas where he wants them. I haven't ever eaten any wildflowers because I'm always afraid they will make me sick. Plus, I know there's only certain ones that are safe to eat. I love sunflowers, but we don't have any growing around here.

I've eaten wild violets the most.Easily identified and they can be used so many ways: in salads, dipped in sugar and put on top of cupcakes, thrown in with ice cubes and punch. Yes some are safe to eat, some aren't, some are actually medicine. Take care.

Wild flowers in general for the some are statements. Johnny jump-up flowers are edible and fun, use like I use wild violets. Also wild roses and if you can find organic roses, they're great! Take care

When I have any I just enjoy them. One year I had a bunch of flowers that came over the fence from my neighbor - I enjoyed the HECK out of them!

Mom called this kitchen clematis - It is all over the fence and into my neighbor's yard. He likes it too. It smells good. It is also in my nature book as wild clematis.
My neighbors do not plant anything, they just get to enjoy mine. I got a terrific pumpkin out of the compost one year. I have something called wild clematis, or fall clematis or my mom called it kitchen clematis. It is eating my whole yard alive. I tried for years to start it, and it did not work, but now it owns me. My neighbor likes it too.

Wild how that worked out isn't it? Try to do it, doesn't work. Don't try and it takes over.
