Are humans violent by nature / myLot

Are we as a species violent by nature, or is it political or social and economic forces which force people into violence? If we can find the basic causes for violence, would curing them stop violent acts, or would people find another excuse to carry out violent acts. Do the same forces which apply to individuals apply to groups or nations?

I think that we are very emotional creatures. Most of us are level headed. However there are many individuals that are more extreme who are angry and violent such as murderers, rapists, and so forth. Are we a violent species, not all but some.
