My friend works for International bank for the past 15 years. Suddenly most of their work is being taken abroad to India because wages are cheaper than in Malta. Since the current work he was doing was taken abroad, he had to be shifted from one department to another. The management fears that some workers will be fired soon. My friends who has car and home mortgages now fears of being fired. How can I support him at the moment?

Thats sad to hear from you.Outsourcing is turning into a bane, once people thought that it was a boon.Just support him in your prayers and he(God) will help him.Thank you

The best thing you can do for him now is pray. I myself have just been fired because of the global financial crisis. It is not easy losing a job, even those ones you don't really like. You know how hard it is without one. The best thing your friend can do for now is to look for other means of income so whatever will happen, he won't be at a loss that much.

by being there as a friend listen to him and just do what you can to mentally help and support him . I don't think you should worry about financially supporting him because that would be to much to take on. Do what you can when you can and let him know that your are there for him.

My country's government is always prepared for such problems by providing subsidised courses that are suitable for all ages to pick up a new skill and be ready for the changing environment. Re-training schemes makes the work force flexible to changing job requirements and the mentality to keep in pace with the society...probably because of the support by my government and my character of willingness to pick up a new skill even after I have graduated, I am not worried about retrenchment. I think that if your friend has been an active learner and is really good in what he does...I am sure he will be able to find another job before the layoff...on a contrary, for those people who do not put in the effort in their work will find it difficult to accept a layoff...

Well be a good friend to him. Right now, I am quite sure that everybody else is holding on to their jobs dearly. I am pretty sure that the whatever the outcome would be you friend should never lose hope as this is his only thing that he can rely on besides you being his friend.

I dont know ron. alot of people are in this position. every factory in my town and the surronding towns are being shut down and the work shipped over seas! it makes me so angry. my brother is hanging on by a thread and he has been at his job, for about 12 years, but all of his companys works is slowly being outsourced overseas. The only thing i can suggest is that you help your friend look for a new job. moral support always help. helping update resumes....going with them when they are putting in applications and going to the employment agencies. i know i always feel better when i have a friend going along with me. thats all i got unless you have some money to lend him if and when he needs it really badly.

my advice would be be a good listener. cause it's not probably and proper to lend him/ her money, so why not persuade your friend to perfect his job, relax ?
