Hi everyone. I have been asked to do a Hello Kitty cake for my granddaughters birthday. My idea was to try a carved cake for the first time. I wouldn't have to go far to deliver it since they live very close. Now I've found out I'm going to have to transport it about 20 miles (thank goodness it's all paved roads..lol).
My original thought was to bake 4 layers of a 9 inch white cake and 4 layers of an 8 inch white cake. Then stack and fill them with a strawberry filling and carve the cake. Then I would of course buttercream the cake and then cover it with fondant. Now I'm thinking maybe I'd be wise to insert 2 or 3 dowel rods through the middle of the carved cake to stabilize it for transport. The cake is going to be top heavy because Hello Kitty's head is a little bigger than her body. Any other suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

I would stablize it as you stated because thats a lot of cake. That is so cute I love hello kitty too. Even though I am 25 years old. LOL :)
I hope this might help you. Well maybe not this is from 3 months ago so. I thought I had to say something since it was about hello kitty.
