Astral travel, past life, or psychic ability?

Ok, I didn't know what catagory to put this under. And I'm sure some may think I'm just weird. A little background here first... My mom's side of the family has always had certain gifts. Some are psychic, like my mom, others communicate with spirits etc. For me, its feelings about places and pictures in my head of people and places I've never been to. I've always been able to pick up on emotional ties to buildings or places. Some bad, some good. Some bad enough I can't stay in the building. I've also had pictures of places pop into my head that I know I've never been to in this lifetime. And since my Mom's passing last year its happening more and more often. A couple of months ago while driving to work a scene of living room of a house I didn't recognize popped into my head. I could see it was decorated for Christmas, it was snowing outside at night, there were people and children gathered... and suddenly a man turned to look at me. Then it was gone. Another day I could see several cottages in a clearing at night, with candles lit in the gardens. People in white were walking around, and I could almost smell the jasmine blooming. Then that scene was gone too.
I don't know if these are all places I've visited in a past life, or if its astral travel, or whats happening. A doctor and author I used to work with felt sure that I was using astral travel to go to these places. That this is why the visions were so clear. The problem is when I see these pictures or places I also get hit with all the emotions that are there at that time too. I really don't know what to make of this or how to determine what is happening. Do any of you have any answers or ideas? Have any of you ever experienced anything like this?

Hi Tess, What you're describing sounds more like space travelling than astral travelling. Astral travelling is when your consciousness leaves your physical body and you can see yourself from outside your body. And there is a sense of movement.
Space travelling is having the perception of being in different places but at the same time your consciousness remains in the body.
Astral travelling can be an overused term, but this gives clarity. A/Trav. is an out of body experience.
It does appear from what you are describing that you are permeating layers of consciousness and are being effected by them. Empathic sensitives have this experience. Picking up on other peoples emotions (alive or in the afterlife) is a trait of an empath, or some call it psychic ability. One thing to be aware of is whether the emotions are yours or theirs. So the ability to discern would be one of the first levels of consciousness you would need to learn. Some empathics can become debilitated by an inundation of energies (depression, sadness, grief) that is not theirs. I've heard of cases where people prefer to stay housebound than be subject to crowds of people because they feel too much.
Then learn how not to become effected by it. Be the observer but not be involved. When learning about spaces a rule of thumb is to see the experience, be aware of it. You have choice as to what you do with it. Doesn't matter whether it is a non-physical or physical experience, it's the same rule.
Spiritual teachers will usually tell you to use your sword of truth in these situations. Go as high as you can in the experience. Often people playing around in lower levels of consciousness can pick up on very merky energies. Psychic and/or Empathic Sensitive people need to learn whether what they are tapping into is harmful or not.
Also depends on what you are aspiring for with this ability. If you have vision you could ask what it is you want see. If I had a choice between angelic presences or emotional turmoil I know which I'd choose.
If you want to learn how to develop vision from a practical standpoint and manage your energy both in the physical and psychically then a free e-book available is Awakening the Third Eye. I'll send you a pm with the website.

Hmmm interesting. See, I'm learning here. Thanks for the website. I'll definitely check into that one. I've heard of empathic abilities, but never thought that might be part of it. It could I guess why at times I'm swamped with strange emotions and feelings when seconds before I felt same as usual. Either that or I'm nuts. LOL But thanks for the info - it gives me more to research.

HI {{Tess}}; This is one of my most favorite things to talk about;
you are not weird by any means at all; This is a subject that a lot of people
don't understand and I'm no authority either; BUT I do understand what you are
saying and talking about;
if you've never seen or read any of Sylvia Browne's books, you should; I just
love her and I have for years and years; she can best explain so much of
what you are feeling now;
WE all have in us this gift, but many are afraid of it its just the kind of
upbringing they had, they choose to ignore it for some reason; My mother always
called me weird when I was a kid growing up..LOL! I loved her dearly but she didn't
have a clue what was going on with me; but Astral travelling ( for me) happens
of a night, when we lay down to go to sleep, napping and such;
that is how you are seeing/and knowing of places you've been too; yet never
been there physically; I'm sure many here have been asleep, and had the sensation
of "falling" and or have that heaviness upon their chest, like someone just sat upon you...that's you entering your body again, you know that SLAMMING kind of feeling, say like you are asleep, having this nice dream ...the alarm goes off
or you maybe hear a startling noise...and you suddenly feel rushed ...and
WHAM!!! you are now back into your body, you wake up...what the heck was that??
When I have my physic moments, its rarely right before something happens, I can dream of something, say YEARS AGO...and then it plays out in real life..very
disturbing at times; and this light bulb goes off in my head, I've dreamt of this
before, I've seen it happen before, ( that's because I dreamed it) word for word
play by play;
well this is a topic I could go on and on about; but seriously do check out
some of Slyvia's book I dearly dearly love her;
oh and because you lost your Mom so recently ( sorry too by the way) that is
another reason you are more tuned in to the universe now;
don't freak out but your Mom will also visit you, you could write another topic
on that if you've experienced it yet? You will know when its her, its a very
very comforting, wonderful feeling when a loved one visits us;
good luck to you;

HI Tess: Oh that's wonderful that your Aunt has visited you, and a host of
other family members...COOL!!
Don't worry if your Mom hasn't visited too much yet, she is just busy doing
her own thing up there, but she will when she can;
I love it that you wrote about this very subject; thank you!

Hello Tess,
I too am very intrigued by this subject - fascinated in fact! I wish I were able to supply some common experiences or answers, but the best contribution I can make is the buildings aspect of your posting.
I have always received very strong feelings of forboding when inside certain buildings. The feelings are so compelling, that I have to leave for the sake of my own sanity. I do not understand anything about this and would like to read any advice by other contributors to your discussion.
Also, I keep on getting vivid pictures, in my minds eye, of Oxford - my home. Since moving to Salisbury last year, these constant 'flashbacks' to all my places occur for no reason, frequently and very strongly - to the point of distraction and hinderance ... I'm convinced that my mind is trying to tell me something, but others insist that these images are messages. I would like to think that it is simple home sickness, but no-one agrees with my symptoms.

Maybe it wouldn't seem so strange to me if it was places I've been to before. Or for that matter times I've even been to. I think the home that flashed to me of the "christmas" scene was from many years ago. Because I know the style of the clothes they wore and even the style of the windows in that room weren't what I'd typically see these days. Like you, I get strong feelings about places. There is one house in my old hometown that I can sense, even if I'm driven past it with my eyes closed. I have a bad feeling about it, and when I lived there would do everything I could to take an alternate route around it. Another odd one was a brand new restaurant we went to. I tried my best to sit thru the whole meal, but ended up having to take our food to go. I just couldn't stay there any longer. I've studied, and read that high EMF (electro magnetic fields) can cause these sensations. And I've often wondered if that could have been the problem at that restaurant. But none of that explains my flashes of houses and emotions of places I've never seen. Who knows?

Hi Gran,
When I moved from Florida after being born and raised here, I had dreams and thoughts of being home in Orland Fl. when in fact I was in California. I'm very intuitive with people. I believe I have a greater sense of people than most. But as far as buildings, you and Tess must be more in tune with the paranormal. The buildings must have a story to tell. Obviously it's what has happened in them. I find all of this very fascinating.

You obviously have a very finely tuned sixth sense, Tess - and I suppose the things you see will reveal their purpose at some stage. I don't have any useful explanations or answers, but I understand what you mean when you say some places have a bad feeling to them. I used to go on a bike ride where there was a certain place in a country lane which literally made chills go down my spine - even on warm, sunny summer days. I have no idea what was wrong, but had to change my route so I didn't pass that spot anymore. A few months ago on my daily walk, I passed a house and had a 'feeling' it was going to burn down. A few days later, it did. That experience really worried me, and I definitely don't want any more like it.

Wow, that would be spooky. You'd think with my family upbringing I'd be used to spooky. My great aunt was a very strong psychic. She often predicted things for her family, especially if it would keep them safe from danger. My mom was quite good at knowing things too. She predicted both my grandchildren would be girls, and the way in which their births would occur. Mom was also great at automatic writing. Something that intrigued me as well as worried me at times. Because she would have no idea what her hand was writing, nor was it her handwriting. I guess I'm going to have to research all of this more. Because lately it feels like someone is saying WAKE UP, and pay attention! LOL

It sounds to me that you both are being channeled in this very special way. I know it is scary but there is a reason for everything and I believe that these kinds of experiences should be taken seriously. I feel like you are both gifted and maybe you can help others with this gift. Granted, I have no personal experience to add to yours but I am so intrigued and wish I did have a gift to help others, even though I realize you may not wish to experience these things. Knowledge is everything.

It is a fact that Astral travel (Past life) comes in some people and they feel a communicate. A few months ago there was a TV breaking news that a boy aging 5 years has all the memories of the past life. He was shown on T.V that his name is this and his father was this and that and he was studying insuch school near by a temple and so on. He was also taken to the school where he says was studying. There he recognized the school, name the teachers and the class mates. I think it happens.How you see it please comment and have a nice day.

I'd guess its possible for a child to do this. Children are much more open than we are as adults. But, I'd think it would be confusing for a child unless he was specifically told what it was he was experiencing.

Hi Tess,
First of all, it's nice to hear from you. Now,I find all this very intriguing. I really wish I had some answers for you. It seems to me that you need to find someone very knowledgeable about these things. Hopefully someone here can give you some insight. I would really love to know what all this means and what you are suppose to do about it. I do hope I can stay in touch and find out if you find any answers. Good luck.

Thanks Leenie. I wish I knew what it meant too. Its happening often enough these last six months or so that I'm starting to feel pulled in all different directions. LOL I'm beginning to think I'm just nuts! Truthfully, I wish my Mom was here to guide me. She seemed to understand all of this type of thing much better than I do.

Tess,
I don't think you are nuts. You have a gift that you don't understand. That's why you need a true professional in this area to show you how to make sense of it and learn how to use it. I wish I could help guide you to someone. Don't let it overwhelm you sweetie. Take care.

Are there any psychic development circles in your area? It might be a good idea to check some out, usually the person running it will be an experienced medium or clairvoyant who can give you lots of help with your ability, and it's a person you can go to for asking any questions about your experiences.

This is interesting!! No, such things never happen to me. The closest to a paranormal experience I ever had was when I felt myself floating out of my body only to pop back in a second later. :) I really dunno what you are experiencing. Could be snatches of memories of the past, scenes from a movie watched, or just figments of imagination. If the visions are lovely, just enjoy them. :)
Cheers and happy mylotting

Thanks for the response. So far only one image/vision, whatever, has been scary. In that one I'm on a wagon or cart headed down a country road. Ahead its flooded and the road is no longer visible, and I end up going into the water. Then it ends. I've had that one pop into my head for years at odd times. Yup, I'm just weird. LOL

Tess, I don't think you are weird at all. My family is much like yours. I grew up knowing, feeling, and seeing things that I had no way to explain. I don't have any suggestions as to what you are going through right now, but I do see some pretty interesting suggestions have been made. Half the time I am not sure what I am seeing or where I am when I see it. I have described rooms or buildings to my mom only to be told that she knew where it was, but I was never there. Sometimes, things I see, hear or know do bother me because I can't figure them out. At some point, the answers do come to me, though, often while I am asleep, and my conscious mind cannot block the answers.

I think its great when family acknowleges that these things happen. My great aunt (who is in her 90s now) has had some amazing predictions with family members. I wish I had even half of her gift. But, it seems mine is to be this. If you can call it a gift. LOL The emotional tug of war is starting to drive me nuts. And yea, it does get frustrating when you can't figure out the answers to this stuff.

Tess, sometimes you just have to let it go. It will come to you when you need it to. I am an empath. I feel a lot of things I don't want to feel, sometimes. I used to think that I was supposed to hold on to those things until the person they belonged to was able to take them back and deal with them. This is not true. I had to teach myself to keep the spout open, so to speak, and take the emotions and let them run through me. It isn't easy sometimes, but, you can't let it build up, either.

To me it sounds like images from a past life coming up, maybe you would benefit from a past life regression? Because if you were regressing through a past life, and seeing images from them, you would get the emotions associated with it too. Just my two cents. I've been having the same things happen to me so i've booked myself in for some past life regressions in a couple of weeks, it just sounds so familiar to what i experience that i thought maybe it's the same. :)

I don't have any answer for you but it is very interesting. It sound magical to me like a fantasy land story. Do these feelings make you feel uncomfortable?. If you were a writer you could write some fantastic stories with those visions or feelings.

LOL Yea, I know it sounds like fantasy. Maybe it is? If so, why does it pop into my head? Wish I knew. I'm no writer, wish I was. Of the many "pictures" I've had pop into my head the two I listed were the Christmas one and the cottage one. The Christmas one made me feel sad - like I'm supposed to be there but I'm not. The cottage one makes me feel peaceful, relaxed, and happy when I think back to it. I don't have the answers though, so I'll have to keep reading and learning.

These experiences are what we call psychometry. Its a very normal psychic ability. Some people have very develop psychometric abilities like you and some more dormant.
