Hi Everyone! I am 38 weeks pregnant and I will be induced on the 29th! I am having a Girl. I am leanin towards calling her Ella Grace. She will be my 5th daughter and my 6th child.
When I was 5 months pregnant I found out she had a heart condition. Its called Transposition of the Greater Arteries, it means her arteries are in the wrong place right is were the left should be. So as soon as she is born they have to do surgery to stabilize her they told me it would be bedside and a week later she will have open heart surgery to perform the switch. Her chances are good and complications later in life vary. From what I understand the first 5 years are critical.
So I am really nervous, I have had a lot of time to prepare but I don't think you ever are for something like this.
So I guess my question to you is have you ever been pregnant with a child that you know was going to have medical problems or do you know someone that has and if so how was it handled. What was the outcome?
Thank you in advance for sharing?
Hugs
rachel

I have never been thru something like this, but a friends daughter had to have open heart surgery and surgery later too. She is now 4 and a beauty. The technology these days go a long way. I know it is hard but keep strong and I love that name!

Hi, didnt mean to worry you, with her they just had to do more heart surgery as they couldnt fix everything at once. I think it will depend on the child and how bad it is. Like I said thou, technology has came a long ways and everything depends on the situation.

You didn't worry me. I am as worried as I can get :) I have an older daughter who also had heart surgery (not as serious as this condition) but it was stressful. So I am prepared for another run with being completely overwhelmed with stress

Do you know what kind of surgery? There are so many but I like to get others experience just so I can prepare myself.

i am sorry to hear about your new baby girl. but don't you worry they are so good at this kind of thing now because it isn't so common. so they know how to get in there fix it and get out. if you are strong now, she will be strong when she is born. no worring, and just know she is going to be just fine. I love the name by the way! Ella Grace is the name of a little girl who has a lot to do in life

Not while I was pregnant, but my oldest has autism and my youngest had a bladder infection when he wasn't quite 2 months old.
I would be scared out of my mind if I knew something was medically wrong with my babies had I found out while I was pregnant with them. My thoughts are with you. Take care.

I like the name Ella Grace. My daughter is Lily Grace.
I have never had to deal with a child with any major medical problems. The worst I have had to deal with is a baby girl with GERD's and that is a walk in the park compared to most medical problems an infant can have. I cannot even imagine how touch if it for you knowing she will have to go through all of that. I will keep you both in my thoughts. Please keep us updated on what is going on.

it has been really hard. I think the wait is really the hardest part, I mean I have spent the last four months waiting to go through h*ll!

Hi Rachel,
I have no kids but if ever I am in the same situation, I will prepare for it like I will research about the food and lifestyle that will be healthy for my baby!
I will be sad but something I will not focus instead be thankful that I am aware as early as needed so that I can prepare and I know that she needs a lot of my extra care and attention!
I know you can do it and hopefully, in the long run, she will cope up the said illness!
I have a co-worker before and her kid has a high blood pressure when he was 10 years and from the moment she learned it, she was trying to discipline the kid with the food etc!
