Since I learned that Sarah Palin is in fact against abortion for women who are victims or rape and incest, I have been wondering... why?
Anyone feel this way? Care to fill me in?
Having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one, to be perfectly honest.... I mean, I get the whole "life" thing... but... I mean...

I get it. The child did not do anything and a mother can always put them up for adoption. Do you know how many people want children and can't get them. Not to be harsh but the mother is going to have reprecussions whether she aborts the baby or has it. Do you not think that you grieve first of all because this child is a rape/incest child, but then you grieve again for killing it or grieve again for giving it away. This is a win/lose situation, but it is still not the childs fault and they deserve a chance.

I believe you meant "lose/lose" situation, unless you meant the rape was a win and the baby was a lose... in which case... oh nevermind.
Do you know how many babies need homes and cannot find them? If you believe this world is at a loss for homeless babies... then yikes! Tack on the fact that the baby probably has abnormalities from being a product of incest and you got yourself a kid who's probably going to be in the system all his/her life... But hey, at least they GOT a life, amirite??

I agree that there are way too many homeless children out there already who cant find someone to adopt them to bring an unwanted child into the world. ANd as far as the grief goes. Chances are that woman is going to feel relieved, not guilty when she aborts the child. I used to be a counseler and know that more often than not especially in the cases of rape or incest the woman feels a great sense of relief after the procedure, not guilt.

I totally think she's insane to believe this and i hate the fact that if mccain is elected her radical prolife views mgiht be forced upon the entire country. It's not fair to the victim of rape or incest to have to constantly be reminded of this horrible crime against them by a baby. Or even if they give the baby up for adoption that's 9 months of having a part of someone you hate inside of you and it's cruel. It's also harmful to the child becasue a monther who is forced to have the baby of someone who raped her probably wont care about taking care of herself during the pregnancy and is more likely to drink or so other things to harm herself and the baby. I hate Sarah Palin's closemindedness.

I think there must be exceptions even if you against abortion in principle (which I am). You have to say that abortion has be considered where rape has occurred although I have heard of cases where a child has been born in those circumstances. I don't know how the mother copes with that but I do have admiration for them being able to recognise that the child is an innocent party.
Like I said I don't know how it's possible to love a child properly in those circumstances, and it's surely an unholy mess - I don't think anyone in their right mind can even think about insisting a rape victim takes a baby to full term...
As regards you question, I can't fill you in on this one I am at a loss...even as a pro-lifer..

I feel that it should be a woman's own choice whether to abort the baby or not. If she is married then it should be a mutual decision of the husband and the wife.

I think this Sarah Palin is clinically insane. She makes me so angry, I really hope she doesn't make it to vice president. How can such a backwards thinking moron make it so far in politics? How can anyone think that women should not have options and choices when it comes to their own body. I think it should be open hunting season on the Palins.

I'm pro- "abortion as the last option". If the baby can be carried healthily to term, I would prefer to see adoption. That's how I hold the position.
But I've never been a victim of rape or incest, which is why I would never see it as my right to create legislation on it. To be honest, I'm not sure its the business of politicians, and yet it's always such a big deal during elections.

Is it the baby's fault that the mother was raped or her father or brother wanted to use her to satisfy his evil lust? So our children have to pay for our sins, so if you commit a crime, according to your logic, your child should go to jail for you. That makes as much sense. And do you realize that these creeps who rape girls take the girl to an abortion clinic so there is no evidence against them and so they do not have to pay for the upkeep of who they produced.
And that is why the guy goes and rape again and again, because and other women decide that the baby they produce should be gotten rid of.
Oh by the way, my two adopted sons were products of a rapist. The mother could have gone to the hospital and had an abortion, but she did not. It was allowed back in 1976 in Canada.

As I said punish the rapist not the baby. Do you hate babies? My opinion is that if I said that I do not care for inter-racial children, you would assume that I was a bigot and I should love all children. So why is it that the same theory cannot be applied to a baby conceived by rape. I can say that you should love all children even the children of rape.
If I am supposed to love babies who are inter-racial, then you should love babies conceived by rape but obviously you do not.

The choice is there, and should stay there. I am sure that in many circumstances, a rape victim is offered a morning after pill, presuming the rape is reported immediately - I guess this is not always the case, but early reporting would at least offer the best chance of a prosecution for the rapist and negate the need for an abortion. Even then I guess some people might object, but it seems to me that this would be the most humane way of treating the problem - that way she wouldn't even know if she had really conceived... (I am guessing as I have no specific knowledge of the morning after pill)

I'll put it out there: I hate babies. Yuck! The less babies, the better, I say! They smell like poop all the time and snot on your face... keep that away from me! There is no law that states I must love babies... at least I hope not, or else I might have to make a break for it...
Had your sons' mother had an abortion, well you would have been none the wiser. Am I saying everyone who has been raped SHOULD have an abortion... nah. I'm saying I think the choice should be there.

Maybe it is because she believes that abortion is a mortal sin. Whether the woman was a victim of rape and incest, the child produced had nothing to do with it so that child should be given a chance to live. Whatever happens, abortion is still murder and it should be punishable by law.

What are you confused about, hun, is it your last statement about how abortion should be punishable by law?
I don't doubt that she believes it is a mortal sin... that was my question, I guess. Thanks for kind of answering it in a way sorta maybe just maybe.

No the child didn't have anything to do with it but neither did the woman. Does she deserved to be punished instead?

She shouldn't have been out of the kitchen in the first place! Serves her right... she was probably not wearing her chastity belt either. Women these days, I tell ya!
