3D movies...Just a pointless gimmick?

What do you think about movies being in 3D; would you like to see more movies made in the 3D format, or do you think it's just a stupid gimmick that serves no real purpose for movie-goers? I, for one, like 3D movies, and wish there were more of them out there. From what I hear, that desire may come true for me, as movie studios are looking into making more movies, using the 3D format. And unlike the red/blue paper glasses of old, there are going to be (and already is) improvements in the way we see those 3D movies. Any thoughts or comments on this is welcomed.
